The question is, will it run on Windows Vista?
In theory it should, but given Sierra's trackrecord, I'd say probably not. :P

QuoteI just got a reply from VU about the game compilations. Here is what they said:

Vivendi Universal Games will be re-releasing classic Sierra title compilations this fall with established vendors (Amazon, etc.).  They are the original games that were previously released.

Thats from the Sierra forums...if we take what they say at face value then this means they HAVEN'T tweaked them to work with Xp :/ then again they could be referring to the fact that they havent remade the games entirely...the plot is thickening!

It does say on Amazon however, that it's made for Win XP.

But if it hasn't been tweaked, then V and VI will still be impossible to play unless you have DOSBox. And we all know that I've been unable to get it to run on my computer.

I'm not sure is this is DOSBox, but doesn't XP come with a thing where you can change the setting (ie. win. 95, win. 98, win. 2000) for each game?  ??? Mine does.

(Sorry, but I was just wondering how many posts it takes to be promoted from a wizard's slave  ??? )

Yes, but the home computer never would play like that...I haven't tried it on the school computer because I had given up on it.

No, DOSbox usually works better than the WindowsXP emulation(for the DOS versions of the games). They're not the same thing.

I can get them all to work without 3rd party software(minus voices in KQV, and a few other weird things), but that doesn't seem to be the usual case. :-\

It's possible to play all the KQ games on modern systems(using 3rd party software). If you try it though, you'll find that it sometimes takes a good deal of tweaking(not something the average PC user wants to go through). ;)

So yeah... if they were to release the KQ games in their current state, they are going to be getting a lot of calls for technical help(whether they support it or not). It would be a VERY bad idea to release DOS games into a mostly NT-based market. I'd like to think any game company would have the sense not to do it(wiithout an emulator of some sort).

As for the rank change, you'll no longer be a slave at 50 posts. :P

Which reminds me... Cat, with the new forum, I think that rank list of yours needs to be updated(50 rather than 51, and the zero thing goes for the rest also... I think). XD

I wonder if Vivendi would have made their own remakes of KQ 1234 and I wonder if they will have to run on dos or a programme.

Yeah, but I don't know if anyone even looks at the rank list anymore (beside me printing out a copy for myself for whenever anyone asks XD)

I posted that message on the Sierra forums. And I really do hope that I don't have to tweak any of the games to work. That would be really tedious for me...

I don't think Vivendi would go to all the work of remaking the games (especially since fan have remade or are remaking most of those games already) and then selling them for only $20.

Point and counter-point! ;D

I hold to the opinion that they would realize that to make it run on XP, tweaking is in order.

My roomie and I are so debating on whether or not to go in together to get it. Especially if it'll be compatible with XP. She's kinda interested in learning more about the games. But I don't want to spend the money if it's not compatible...and I'm afraid the cost will go up once it's officially released.

I'm pretty sure it would be compatible. Technical issues aside, I don't see a company like Vivendi would releasing something that can't be run on the most widespread OS used by gamers today :-\
Plus, it does say "released for XP"... which is an awfully stupid thing to say if the games can't be RUN on XP :P

You would hope so but, you know, it IS vivendi ;p

Hmmmm I may put a preorder in, although last time amazon.com had some idiotic postal charge of $24 for international shipping! Not showing up on .co.uk yet i think :(

The price was lowered to $17.99. I want to preorder it, but my dad won't let me. He wants me to wait until it's actually released before we order it. I don't think he believes in p[reordering something... Oh well. :'(
