Maybe seeing as POS has been in contact with VG, perhaps they can ask/beg Vivendi about these compilations, perhaps tell them what a good idea it would be to release them!!

koko_99_2001

Well, sounds like a good idea, but I believe POS just has a fan license and are not getting paid, as they would with a contract. So I doubt that they'd have much say on when the compilation was released.

Well, someone over at the ADG forums, apparently, he was a senior member, so he's respectable and I think he's part of their team, he said that "our contacts within Vivendi tell us that the compilations are on schedule for release later this year."
Maybe they are going to come out, but they're actually reverse engineering them to make them XP Compatible, and when you're working with 8 games, that would probably take some time, especially if there's problems. I mean...back in October when people thought they were coming out then, the compilations sold awesomely: they reached within the top 50 sellers on Amazon, which is very good for  compilations of games that haven't been released in years with no promotion.

I don't see why they should reverse engineer anything... they should have the source code for those games :S
Unless I'm totally off here, all they have to do is change the game engines code a bit to make it XP compatible, or just pack in some invisible emulators with the games :-\

Well, this may or may not be what's really going on, but Ken Williams seems to think that somewhere along the lines after all the chaos and changes of hands, that Sierra probably lost the original source codes to the games.

That was my thoughts exactly when I first heard of these Compilations.  I seriously doubt they'd update any source code and thought it's more likely that Vivendi licensed DOSBox and would burn them all to one DVD, or 2-3 CD's. 8)

Please someone at POS  in your next dicussions tell Vivendi how much people want these compilations, because as computers get more and more advanced it's getting increasingly harder to run these games and if they dont update them soon eventually it will be impossible to run them.

Deloria

POS just has a fan-license, it's unlikely they will hold any influence over VG.  :-\ You'd have to talk to A3P about the compilations. :P

I don't work there. I work at Vivendi.

But VG is part of ESA. ::)

I still say that this game is still a figment of our imaginations, as is this site, all the people posting on it, TSL and even Vivendi for that matter. Heck I'm a figment too.  Just a random error on the screen that just so happens to make sense in the English language.

This is a good reason to have a dual-boot computer with Windows 98SE and XP Home/Professional like I do.  98SE has been able to run all of the KQ collection of mine which is the Roberta Williams Anthology without any trouble.  Another solution for those of you with XP would be to download and try running the King's Quest games from Virtual PC for XP which is now available for free from the folks at Microsoft.  There is also DosBox and other solutions.
