Fortunately for me and my family, hurricane katrina did not a ttack my area like Charley did. It passed by us with thunderstorms and some strong winds. It hit New Orleans pretty hard, there's  alot of flooding in that area. I've never been to New orleans but my parents have. I would like to go there sometime and see the old buildings. I hear that the superdome that sick and disabled people have taken shelter in has the roof being peeled away and is subject to flooding. My neighbor is from New Orleans and has family there, she said that her family got out before the huricane hit. Unfortuantely, this is making oil and gas prices go high.

If anyone wants to keep track of what's happening in NewOrleans, I recommend this site. :-\

I've been told that all the schools in Middle Tennessee have been closed for today. We've never had classes cancelled because of a hurricane because the winds are never really that bad (20-30 mph), but it sounds like they're going to have 50+.

It's truly a disaster. They've lost all control of the situation. It's hell down there. God...this is really terrible. I can only pray that things turn around quickly and the casualties are stopped before the reach the thousands. Truly an awful occurance.

It looks so tarnished in our eyes,
Yet so afraid of...

Fading into nothing.
Just a trace of light
That burns within our thoughts... "

They are saying that New Orleans might be lost forever........

chaos, pure chaos.... and looters in the mix...  :-\

My best wishes and luck to everyone down there.

@DMD
the governor(sp?) (i think it was him) said that in about 3 months the city should functioning again, not a 100% percent but it means a certain recovery. Anyways, only time will tell.

I've been watching the news and it shows how bad things are there. This makes Charley look like a picnic compared to the horrors Katrina left in her wake.  The problem was with all the flooding relief trucks could not get their fast enough. Now people are angry and blaming the gov when it's not really their fault. I'd like to make some donations to help the people of New Orleans.

It really is a shame that blame's being put on people who don't deserve it. But I won't get on my soapbox.

The main reason government help is just getting there now is because of all the red tape and how hard it is to mobilize large groups of people. Smaller groups (churches and any other non-government mobilization) were able to get there within a day. Yes, it's horrible that the conditions are still horrible and so many people still have to be rescued. However, help IS getting there and, eventually, it will all work out.

The Blur informed me today that there's a family who is staying in the apartment next to her who escaped Katrina (don't know whether they left before or after the hurricane), but they're needing so much help now. :(
