Oh man... :(

Even though Vivendi has every right to close this down, I am a little disappointed.  I had such high hopes for this game.

On the plus side, maybe you guys can pour all of your dedication, creativity, and hard work into a completely original adventure game with a high quality story (and make some money besides!).

Best of luck to all of you.  :)

Thanks. :)

Vivendi never mentioned anything to us about an official sequel to the series.  But like we've said before, should this situation ever arise, we would respect their wishes.

We're trying to see what our next move will be.  If anything develops, we'll let you guys know. :)

This is...:'( Wow. This is beyond words. Couldn't you still work on the game with different names and things and just keep the likenesses? I don't want all of the years of work to just go to waste...

I'll miss you guys soooooooooooo much. I'll support your next project no matter what, whatever it may be! It is sad that it has to end this way...  :'( You have brought us a very good quality game, and you should do fine on another project.

Oh man...this just plain sucks. Wow.

Do you think it would be possible to buy whatever rights Vivendi has to the series from them? It would be worth a shot at least IMO.

Rosella

I'd donate to that cause in a heartbeat.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, that us fans would each donate money towards it. I know I'd do it without question.

There's no reason to hate Vivendi :)

I think any company would have done exactly the same to protect their own interests. And remember, as stated in the notice, that we're exploring possibilities. That could mean a lot for KQIX. But don't direct your anger towards them please, we all knew this could happen, and were prepared, it's part of taking a risk.  :-\

Except they didn't shut down AGDI, who had the same plot, characters, and GRAPHICS! It was almost plagerism and they got permission. Why couldn't they just let KQIX live? :'(

It's not all over yet. Plus what they've done is a pretty standard procedure, almost every company that holds rights to a brand have that and Vivendi aren't an exception. And it's not exactly true that AGDI were let off easily, I remember they went through a long hassle and also had to change one of their games. :P

My dreams shattered, I was so looking forward to it. I'm sure Roberta Williams would have allowed it.  :'( *Bursts into tears*

Its too bad that Vivendi couldn't have sent the letter a couple of years ago...I think the timing is quite suspect....

However, I will ask the same question:  Could you not just change the names and basically start a whole new adventure series?

I am so bummed right now....:(

Yes like call it 'The adventures of the Royal Family of Daventry'
:)

Rosella

But Daventry is a Sierra name. KQIX is a perfectly legal name. Maybe if they just changed the character names...Don't die on us :(

Unfortunately, there's quite a few reasons to hate VU Games... Just read any of the forums for basically any of their games. Tribes: Vengeance, for example, and the NEEDED patch that they gave up on and never released, dropping support for the game just a few months after its release. And so on, and so on... :-\ In this case, I'm extremely disheartened to see things take that course. I loved the trailer, as did everyone else who watched it, I'm sure... Even the folks at VU. ;) Best of luck to the team.

Rosella, plagiarism is taking someone else's work and pretending it's yours. We've never pretended Sierra was not responsible for the original games in the first place, so your term is a little off.

If AGDI would have done a sequel, we'd have been shut down. No sequels or spin-offs... We basically got that straight from the horse's mouth.

Regarding VU sending the letter a few years ago...lots of fangames never finish. I'm pretty positive that the release of a trailer and the announcement of a "release date" relate to this.

While I too hope the team will consider salvaging their material and making it an original game rather than dropping everything, a conversion won't be easy, although I'm sure they'd be able to pull it off. It's the not the literal name that's the problem though...it's the reference. Changing a few names won't make much of a difference, indirect KQ-references are still KQ-references.
