Exactly, not to mention that the only reason people are reading them, is because they don't want to read or worry about the "real world", instead they wan't to be caught in JK's dream world of magic. In that sense the books are escapism and nothing else. In addition to the fact that no one wants to hear that the stock market's falling or that the dollar is a very unstable currency, or even worry about whether or not there's going to be a law against abortion soon (I know about Roe vs Wade, but I'm pretty sure the discussuion won't be over for a long time).

So HP books are drugs?

People say the same thing about drugs, the truth is for some people it may be an escapism but for others it's the fact that they actually enjoy reading. I love the HP books, and I don't read them to escape but to kill time and read something enjoyable.

I agree with you. The books really have no meat, no super original storyline. Discussion makes them much more than they are.

So in that sense all of the books you consider "classic"  are escapism too. In that statement you are saying that ALL books are escapism. I have a friend who reads A TON and he is connected with the "real world" more than anyone else I know. He reads HP and is an A student. And reading is "real world" just because you get sucked into a great book you are still just reading it in the "real world." Jafar's comment is the best so far and to me your statement is comparing books to hallucogeons.

Racx: HP books are not drugs but they do remove some people from reality. I'm just saying that some people are, indeed, removed from reality, and that those people I know that are removed from reality talk about HP, read all theHp's over and over again, and watch the movies in their spare time. Hence, I assumed a connection. 

Jafar and Rosella: The G8 meeting was a meeting for most countries to discuss the stituation of global warming. It is not, by any means the l33t for the word "gate". It took place last summer.

The world is getting warmer, but not because of cars and junk.
The world has been slowly degenerating since the fall of Adam, It's all the effect of peoples choice. But I'ts probaly a good idea to be prepared for the worst the fact is our planet is dieing slowly and there's nothing we can do to stop it. You can only change yourself and the people around you.
