You can make a degree symbol by holding down the ALT key while typing 248 on the numeric keypad. Unfortunately, IE treats ALT+4 like the Back button - so I have to do it somewhere else and copy and paste.

It also works if you type ALT-0176 (using the numpad). I've got no clue why there's two codes for it, though. Another one I like to use is ALT-0215, which is for multiplication: ×
Apparently, the degree symbol is B0 in Unicode. That's 176 (=0176) in decimal.
