Alex

Good day,

My name is Alex Côté and I run a small independent game development house, Imp Forge Studios. A year ago we were contracted to develop a proof-of-concept demo for a client's intellectual property, AWAKEN. Although our client owns the rights to the demo itself and all art assets, we own the rights to the game engine that was written to support the demo.

This engine -- the Quest engine, named as an hommage to the old Sierra On-Line classics -- supports the rendering of fully 3D actors onto 2D backdrops. It comes with a simple tool, the Scene Editor, which lets contents authors build Quest scenes from various art assets. The engine is fully data-driven and was written with ease of integration in mind. Interface and resource management has not been developed as part of the engine.

Each scene can have its own 3D transforms, which allows for virtually any perspective and point of view (or for the perspective to be consistent between scenes, as per the AWAKEN demo and previous Sierra On-Line games). The scenes can be scrollable horizontally. The engine supports layered 2D objects which can be positionned in 3D and allow for the 2D art to look and feel tri-dimensional. The scene author can also create 2D vectors that represent "walls" or movement boundaries, which are used to limit movement around the scene and perform collision detection. The tool also supports the creation of clickable hotspots which can be clicked on or walked through, to support scene transitions.

Feel free to take a look at screenshots and download movies of our Quest engine running the AWAKEN demo at the following URL:

I'm not sure where your team stands in terms of engine development, but do let me know if you need any help, suggestions or reviews. As a huge fan of the King's Quest franchise, your project made me very excited.

Sincerely,

Torque engine is the flavor of the day.
It's peanut butter jelly time!

A kind offer to be sure, Alex. However, as GunHoMac has indicated, The Silver Lining is being developed with GarageGames' Torque Engine
Once the votes are read, the decision is final. The person voted out will be asked to leave the Tribal Council area immediately. I'll read the votes...
