Since I am no good with installing mods at all, could anyone please give me some insrtuctions on how to install them, because the only computer in my house that even plays Kings Quest games is my Windows 98.  Also, is it possible that these mods also work in the Windows 2000 as well as the XP?

Quoteplease give me some insrtuctions on how to install them,
To install them in MS-DOS mode, after installing the DOSBox. Run DOSBox (C:\DOSBox\dosbox.exe).

Then, if you're using floppy disk or CD-ROM (it doesn't matter) type the drive letter for the installment unit (ex: "A:" for floppy or "H:" for CD-ROM) and the install drive letter (ex: "C:"). Doing this, the drives will be mounted in DOSBox. Then, go to the install discs and run INSTALL.

Then, you can exit DOSBox & follow the guide to make them run.

QuoteAlso, is it possible that these mods also work in the Windows 2000 as well as the XP?
Yes. Because DOSBox is an emulator that works in W2K too. So there's no problem to run them ;)

Hope you'll join KQ again! :)

Nice job! I already got mine to work but your instructions for KQVI & V sound like what I had to do.

I prefer the Windows version of KQVI to the DOS version, so I use an older version of Windows to play that.
Once the votes are read, the decision is final. The person voted out will be asked to leave the Tribal Council area immediately. I'll read the votes...

How do I open MOUNTCD.bat if I didnt create it yet?  Did I miss something where it says to copy a code and save it as mountcd.bat?
I dont even know if thats what mounting means but what does it mean and how do I do it?

franzrogar

I missed to say: create a new file and save it as MOUNTCD.bat  :sweating:

I'll fix it soon and add the info about installing it in DOSBox mode.

Thank for saying it  ;)

Wow it feels like I'm never gonna get this game to work.  As soon as it starts up and shows the green sparkling SIERRA.  It freezes right at that.  Might as well keep trying though.

franzrogar

What KQ are you trying to install?

Maybe you have missed to config some files. Take a look to the "mountcd" options (don't forget to replace it with your system spec)

I am trying to play KQVI but I can only load the Dos Version (without voices). Is there any way to load the Windows Version?

kturcotte

I have been trying to play the games on XP Media Center Edition 2004 (XP Pro). I can get the games to play, but I can't get any sound. I haver a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro sound card. I select Sound Blaster card, but it tells me it can't utilize my sound card. Is the sound card just too new for the games?

Oldbushie

Apparently there's a sound emulator for some games, called VDMsound... I've never figured out how it works but at least it's something.

I downloaded VDMsound and that was somewhat successful. I can get sound effects and music, but no speech. I've also downloaded Dos Box, but really have no idea how tp use it.  How do I use Dos Box (Pretend I'm 5 lol)

Jafar

First, you need to mount the "virtual drive". Just type in "mount C C:\" and then you can access everything on the C:\, DOS style. :P
Then you can type cd/sierra/insertgameyou'retryingtoplayhere to get to where it is. If the game has voices, type "mount X (X being your cdrom drive) X:\ -t cdrom", and the game can read the CDrom while you play. After that, just run the game. Hope this didn't sound too confusing.

Games are saved directly onto my Hard Drive, though I could dig out the CDs if necessary.

Jafar

I think using the CDs is easier, unless they're scratched.

Use D-Fend with Dosbox.

Very useful, you can play with the settings a whole lot easier.
