a) Is there any chance that Dink will appear in KQIX? Or his infamous friend Sam?
I don't believe Dink will, but who's Sam? ???

Sam is the mouse in Mordack's dungeon from whom you steal the moldy cheese! ;D

Dink was the rocky ape looking thing from whom you got the hairpin.

But apparently, neither of them are in KQIX/TSL.

Is there any news other than "We're in negotiations."? :-X

Wait, is Dink that little thing that comes to get you in Mordack's castle? I haven't played it in ages, mainly because I didn't like it so much, and I got scared of it. But ironically, I was never scared of MoE! I don't remember Sam at all.

Dink is the beast in the maze you have to go through to get to Mordock's castle, and Sam is Cassima's other friend. She says something about hanging out with Dink and Sam, and that she thinks Graham hasn't met Sam. And there is no real evidence that the mouse is Sam. I love King's Quest V so much! It was the first one I ever won.

Yonkey

If there's no real evidence, where did you get the name Sam from? ;P

Cassima says, once you befriend her, "I spend a lot of time here with my friends, Dink and Sam. I don't know if you ever saw Sam or not." Well, something to that effect anyways,

Ahh, now I see what you mean.  I guess it's safe to assume the mouse is Sam.  It's either him or the blue monster. ;P

Oh. I was thinking of the blue monster. That was scary, because out of nowhere, he comes to get you!

I strongly doubt it was the blue monster. That thing is described as basical an evil blue henchmen in strategy guides, and if you look at it. Its also quite nasty.

Also considering that the only way into the cell was by the "blue henchman"(considering that Mordack just kills intruders rather than imprisoning them) then it wouldn't make sense for Cassima to say something to the effect that she didn't know if Graham met sam or not. Also the creature's descriptions doesn't come across as something that one could befriend. Infact in extended dialogue in the King's Quest Companion, Cassima warns graham of the monsterous henchmen, a creature that prowls the halls of the castle, never sleeping, before he leaves the kitchen.

Later on, Cassima refers to it as the "blue meanie", and implies she is afraid of being noticed by it, if she tries to rescue him again.

Also blue henchman's description of being evil is in contrast to Dink who just seemed to be a strong  and dumb being, who had a thing for music, and ultimately friendly.

Now the rat being sam? The implication exists from the fact that Cassima says the comment not long after you get cheese from the rat hole. I'm not sure but I think interaction magazine once implied the rat may have been sam in one of its hintguides.

I also highly doubt it was any of the strange, green, yellow, blue, etc bugs that skitter around the dungeon.

However ultimately we may never know who or what sam was in the mind of the designer that created that dialogue.

You make some good points there, Baggins.
I always assumed the blue monster was Sam, but that didn't sit right with it being evil :-\
I guess Graham never did meet Sam then... Maybe it was supposed to be an optional side-quest in the maze/castle, which was later scrapped due to deadline issues :S

Maybe Sam used to live behind those locked doors in Genesta's castle! XD

I always assumed the blue monster was Sam.  I guess since it's evil, and cannot be made friends with, it could not be Sam. I thought the blue monster was not really evil, it was just a slave to Mordack, and doing what it's told. If it was evil why didn't it kill Graham?
