I was just browsing the forums and figured hey, its pretty quiet here, so I decided I needed to try to do something about it.  This is what I came up with.  Here is a thread for people to talk about the polls, whether it be what they voted and why, or simply a discussion of the results, so please, add in your two cents and lets see if we can get the forums kickin.

Not a dig, but I found the wording of the most recent poll somewhat misleading...none of the options are really mutually exclusive, for example. I found some of them ambiguous, too...what exactly does "deeper and darker" mean?

I think the real problem for me is, we're being asked to come up with how to tell the story without knowing what the story's about. "Would you like it to be...a musical? Fast-paced? Slow-paced? Should there be purple bears in it? (Answer: yes.)" Well, um, all those decisions hinge on what the writers are trying to get across. I mean, we can just sort of guess, but I don't know how helpful that input will really be.

Yeah, that is a complaint I have heard a lot of, even from other staff members.  Just to clean my slate, the poll wasn't my idea, it came from the higher ups in the game, they where thinking it would help solve a problem but even they realized later that it didn't have quite the affect they desired.  After this, we will get back to normal, simple polls.  By the way, any suggestions on what the next poll should be?  I have been racking my brain but havn't come up with anything worthy really.

It is true that the poll is somewhat vague but it did manage to complete what it was meant to do.  Basically the writers wanted to know what concepts the KQ fans were willing to accept in a KQ storyline.  The results will definitely help although I agree it should have been better written.

This is one reason I hope people will start discussing the poll in more detail on our site.

We'll take more time to write our polls in the future to make sure we avoid this issue.

As pointed out earlier the poll was much too vague.  This is one perfect example.  Just because we want to add a deeper and darker plot than previous KQs, we most certainly will involve fairy tale based puzzles.

Baaah? No offense intended, but the fairy tales WERE King's Quest. I have a hard time thinking of what would define a KQ game after separating it from that.

You're telling me! KQ wouldn't be KQ without the fairy tales. That's one of the things that puts some distance between it and QFG, in my eyes. The earlier KQ's fairy tale references may have stood out a bit, but as the series progressed onwards, they began to blend in with the story more, limiting most of the references to motifs and archetypes, even mixing in a little legend every now and then (KQ7 had very little true "fairy tale" material, even though several of the protagonists are fairies(snicker, snicker)). Hopefully this game will have just the right balance of it.

I have to agree with the person who said that Fairy Tales WERE king's Quest.  I think the fairy tales were one of the main things that gave KQ it's magic.  One of the MANY things that I didn't like about MOE, was the fact that the light-hearted fairy tale creatures were  non-existent.    That and the fact that MOW had NOTHING to do with KQ, other than it started in Daventry... but don't get me started on that!!!

As for another poll...  how about a poll about who was everyone's favorite ruler in King's Quest.  I'm pretty new here, so you may have already done that one.  Personally, I adored Fifi Le Yip Yap!  He was just a crack up!
