I'm a bit confused by the talk about the mask of eternity on the timeline. It sounds as though its destruction only hurt daventry. But I really got the impression in the game that it was messing up the whole world. Which was it?

Cesar Bittar

We figured out the Mask didn't affect the whole wolrd since there are living creatures outside Daventry. It's just in Daventry where everyone was turned to stone.

To tell you the truth, that's not a clear issue. But we figured that the Mask only affected Daventry since in other lands nobody had been turned into a stone (I.E. the queen in the ice mountains)

Hope that helps!

The Infamous Mecha Sonic

I was just about to post the exact same topic when I saw this one. I had assumed that the destruction of the Mask of Eternity had a global impact on the world as well. This only makes sense, considering it was designed to be the very Face of God. God created all men everywhere, so shouldn't every man in the world be affected by it?

...But we figured that the Mask only affected Daventry since in other lands nobody had been turned into a stone (I.E. the queen in the ice mountains)

I figured the reason they weren't turned to stone like the people in Daventry was because they weren't human. Logically, the Medusa-effect would only strike against mortal men, not magical beings like dwarves or blue-skinned ice people.

I was going to buy that game originally, but I deemed it unwise due to the fact that it wasn't like any other of the King's Quest games

Masters In Quest

It only affected humans around daventry because Prince Alexander set out on a quest to save daventury but was blocked by a sheild that covered it. I beleive that the masks effects were slowly spreading because in the letter wrote by Alex to King Graham he said he couldn't stay where he was for long for he feared the same of him his sister and his royal gaurd. So i have come to the conclusion that the mask started in Daventry and was SLOWLY spreading from Daventury to the rest of the entire world. Say somethin if you disagree with what i'm sayin but i think what i've said makes since.

Rosedragon

I think they should have put more connection between the previous games and MOE, because MOE seemed completely irrelevant to KQVI & KQVII. They should have finnished off with Edgar and Rosella, or have Shadrack in it as the villain.

Any attemp to try and fit MoE into the KQ timeline is both stupid and doomed to faliure.
Just because Sierra stuck the title "KQ8" on the game doesn't automatically means it DESERVES to be called a KQ, and MoE definately does not.  >:( >:( >:(

I'd be much happier if everybody did the same as me -  ignore it altogether as a KQ (just erase the KQ title off the game and you wouldn't even notice it has anything to do with the series). ::)

Storm

Obviously, in KQ9 you haven't done the smart thing I recommanded on in my last post and chose to relate to MoE as an actual KQ.

Although I'm disappointed that I'll have to hear about MoE in KQ9 rather than keep pretending it never existed  :'(, I'm very curious to see how you'll explain this mess, as you claim to have a better explantion than "Sierra wanted to make more money by appealing to larger market".

The thing about KQ8, and I'll say it again, was the gameplay. The worlds and plot were actually, interesting. A lot can be taken to build on strong plot elements, and we are doing so, especially with Connor.

As you read the newsletter, you'll find much more on this.

Sincerely,

Ah the good old Mask.....I think KQ8 had the most profound impact with KQ fans.....just not in a good way.....

Rosedragon

I think the thing Sierra good have done better with moe is to have put more traditional kq references in it, not just the unicorn and wizard, but maybe make King Graham more like he was in the old games, tell about Valanice, Rosella and Edgar, and get rid of that annoying Old English, put some traditional kq npcs in it, like Crispin or Genesta. They also should have made the world more kq-like, Daventry could have had woods and meadows in it, like in kq1, and the other worlds could have been more like Kolyma, Tamir, Lewdor, Serenia, Green Isles or Eldritch.

Nah, that would just make it worse. MoE is so bad, I'm glad it has little to do with the KQ series, that way we can just ignore it...  :-/

KQ9 will try to do its best to resolve all of the inconsistencies in KQ : MOE and the rest of the series.  You'll have to just wait and see.  Some things you may see solved in the Four Winds, so keep a look out in future issues.
