Thanks Storm for clearing that up...unfortunately, I haven't had the time to look everything up again (I wanted to make sure I had something varified before I posted it).

Say, there are actually people who know the language fluently and courses a person can take...I haven't had the time to learn the language, but I have about 18 pages I've printed out with different Elvin words and phrases.

What's the point of learning these languages? you might as well learn Klingon or Volcan (they also exist) or Aramaic ::)

Another language hardly anyone speaks is Hebrew... very difficult to learn for English speakers. I think there are more people in the world speaking Klingon than Hebrew :P

Storm

btw, I know some words in Aramaic - very close to Hebrew, that one. :D

Insulted me? where?

I don't think you can see the hebrew fonts unless you have them installed... if you really want to see what hebrew looks like, you can go to the hebrew version of my site and click on the book icon or the revolving smiley in the bar frame - the titles there are pictures of hebrew writing.

And the biography of Tolkien I read didn't mention anything about jail time.

Yeah, I speak French. English is my native language, but I took about 3 and a half years of French and can make up some phrases on the spot, though some words escape me (like what spoon and fork are). So, basically, I can ask for someone to pass the chicken, but I can't ask for another fork. :P

"Passez le poulet, s'il vous plait."
"Donnez-moi un [fork], s'il vous plait."
"Ou sont les toilettes?"

And stuff like that.

I took French cuz my ancestors are French-Canadian, and my memere speaks French just as well as English, so it's handy at times.

I'm also gonna learn Japanese (or I'll try), since I only know "hai" (yes) and "baka" (idiot), just enough to get me in trouble. ;)

Also, I can read most of the Latin-based languages (like Spanish and others) since the words are similar to French words and some English words. That way, I can at least read the signs a bit (though the bigger words escape me).

I have a cool story to tell.  My mom speaks French (she took it in hish school and college) and my siblings and I speak Spanish (b/c that's all my high school offered).  One evening, my brother asked my mom something in Spanish (I think to go to a friend's house), my mom answered him in French, he responded in Spanish, and she said something else in French.  What I thought was so cool was that they understood each other!!!  Me, I don't think I remember enough Spanish to be able to do that!

Hey Bloody Honor! hahaha that word is soooo common from mexico (cabrón), I mean you guys know the difference in all latin countries right? its pretty much the same the difference of slang used all over USA or just in english all over the world, everywhere they use differents terms yet same language, for example it was so fun when i read it, because its not something you use to hear around here :)

It obviously always tend to deform at some places, like in mexico they got this really weird words to say so many stuff, I wonder why they make up so many words like that? :P besides the funny accent, they got one in argentina, and chile, and colombia, etc.

My native tounge is Hebrew. I'm quite fluent in English (as some of you may have noticed :D ).
I studied Arabic at school, but I was very bad at it then and I hardly remember any of it now, though I can sometimes recognize the letters and read words in it (I can spell my own name! :P). However, the Arabic they teach at highschool here is the liturary Arabic, and it's somewhat different than the spoken Arabic.

I also know a few words in the following languages:

Franch (non parlez france)
Italian (non kupisco italiano)
Spanish (gracias por el pougo)
German (got in himmel!)
Africaans (ek gaan en my broek kak)
Yiddish (shain vie die levone)

And yes, I know my spelling is bad. I never said I could spell :-[

BTW - Yiddish and Hebrew have some similar words, and Yiddish is written in Hebrew letters so if someone can read Hebrew s/he can also read Yiddish (though not necessarily understand it).

Just a piece of rather useless information... :P

WA! ;D
well same here, Hebrew as first languge and English as my second

Oldbushie

I speak English mostly, but sometimes if I feel Frenchy I start randomly speaking French sentences.
Like:
"Mon ami est une banane."
"Je suis un anana qui save comment dancer."
"Je suis un touriste."

savoir = to know, I think. I remember sais is the first person at least.

Not too sure about save, I think that's the right form. Kinda makes sense, though, that "to know" would be saving in a game, since the game "knows" where you've been.

It's nice to know where some words come from, at least.

And as for Japanese... I kinda want to see games in their original translation sometimes. And so many games come from Japan, so...
