Who's looking forward to Lord of the Rings 2 and the DVD release of the first one?

I was actually very impressed with the first Lord of the Rings movie.  The fantasy genre is a very difficult type of story to turn into a good movie.  Many have tried, few have been able to pull it off.  I do think that the first battle scene at the beginning of the movie should have felt more epic but aside from that I think they manage to tell the story in a way that kept me interested all the way through.  Definitely a DVD buy.

I heard there is a 45 minutes battle scene in The Two Towers, that should be quite interesting to watch!

Looks like the Lord of the Rings DVD is going to be pretty cool :

- The 178-minute cut of the film
- Trailers and the best TV spots
- Featurettes that the official LOTR site ran over the year before the movie came out
- Television Specials

You can read the full review at http://dvd.ign.com/articles/366/366162p1.html

I also heard they are going to release a 4 DVD disc set in a few months.  I guess the real question now is who is the best Lord of the Rings fan the one who buys it first or the one who waits 2 extra months for the ultimate edition?

I will let you decide.

I don't know about any of you, but I think it's worth it to wait.  I loved the movie, and  I can't wait to own it, but if I'm going to spend the money, I might as well get the 4 disk one.

Rick_Florez

I don't know about you, but special features I usually watch once.  I bought the 3-disc pack for Toy Story 2, went all over the place to find it when it first came out, it cost me more and I have yet to finish watching the third disc.  Its not really worth it for me.

I agree with Jen, If I'm gonna actually get the movie I would wait to get the especial edition, I think is about waiting some more and get the full 4 DVD set, but also Rich does make a point  :), special features is not something we watch so frequent.... all we usually do is watch the movie itself so, I don't know it depends in how much of a "fan" you choose to be I guess? About the lord of the ring movie, I would wait like Jen  ;D

I saw the LOR again yesterday I rented it and I just can't get tired to say it, is for sure one of the best movies ever,  I love Gandalf, Aragorn and Frodo, but to me the coolest is Aragorn!  ;D
I don't want to ruin someone's hope on seeing the two towers and the return of the king, but I'm anxious to comment a lot of stuff about it, since the first movie was so amazing I just can't wait to see the whole story, so anyone here has read the book (and remember) what happens? ::) I totally forgot about what happen on this next part, I read it long ago, I know frodo doesn't keep the ring, who does?

I think Gandalf's fight was very cool no matter what, but Rich is right, it could have been more like a magical thing going on there.
What you do guys think about all the monsters in the movie? I loved the troll and the ancient demon!! they looked amazing to me.

I have been a fan of fantasy + Tolkien for sooo long, even before the film exhisted. I'm so glad other people are finding out the delights of it all. But it does make me gealous as well, because.....I loved it for so long that I felt like it was part of me and me only. My own wonderful world! :). Now I'm one of the pebbles in the ocean.
"What was it when I looked at you?
What power has chained me through and through?..."
Guess where that came from! All you KQies

Rick_Florez

Probably the first KQ fans felt the same way when so many people began discovering that awesome game and its sequels.  But thats what happens with good literature and good games, they become famous.  Luckily the classics have stayed true to themselves.

don't feel bad about it pleasant girl, as a matter of fact, this kind of people as you mentioned that -recently- discovered it, the "newest fan" of fantasy subject, they probably would have never read "the book" and now they have seen the movie I don't think they won't either honestly, so the real magic to me is on the fans that actually read a book instead of just  go to the movie and watch it, I think.  :)

by the way,  Rich did you know that Spiderman has about 98 (or something) mistakes on the sequence in the whole movie?, some sort of like there was a bag in the room, then they show a close up of somebody's face, when they go inmediatly back to the room scene the bag was missing and stuff.
Anyhow, I liked it as well and I never noticed ANY of them when i saw the movie if I wouldn't read it in the newspaper I would have never know :P

HAHAHA! that was mean Rich, even I do think too that the goblin costume could have been WAAAYY better, I know, I liked spiderman's costumbe a lot instead!! it kinda looked 3d sometimes.
And thanks for sharing your knowledge with us Cesar, and where it is a big no or not they sold a lot anyways!!!!!  :)

I think hollywood movies rely too much on 3d. While there have been some spectacular special effects in the movies lately, I think they're overdone. A lot of movies, such as the new star wars films, are nothing but special effects. It sorta take the magic out of the whole 'going to the movies' thing.

For example: Willow. It was one of the greatest films ever made. They didn't use CGI back then but the special effects were realistic none the less. The problem is that CGI makes magic so cheap that you see it in at least 3 out of 5 movies. Willow was so incredible because, at the time, a movie like that only came along once every 2 or 3 years.

Granted, lord of the rings would have been MUCH harder to do without CGI. practically impossible. But it would have been a better experience if I hadnt already seen Harry Potter in the same week.
Believe everything you hear. Its all true... Trust me.

Say

I don't think that is a bad thing, as a matter of fact I guess it helps somehow when they're actually doing the movie, sometimes they just can't get it all real and they need a little help, like for example, gladiator I guess?? the coliseum people was done by computer (as so other effects which i don't remember right now) and it didn't take out the magic of the movie, I think it helped somehow to create it.
There are so many movies using 3d technology nowdays, like matrix, Lord of the ring, gladiator, etc, and I don't think they were so bad?
I guess it depends in how is the technology being used in the movie.

I wouldn't say 3D is cheap.  Have you ever seen a company bill for the 3D services they do, its not like you could afford it.  By the time you pay the entire crew, the workstations, the render farm, the software, the bill has already had time to grow.  I think its more realistic to say that 3D is cheaper for what you get out of it.  The real power of 3D is that you can continue retooling and refixing things unlike traditional special effects methods like stopmotion where you have to get it right the first time.  Plus its all digital which makes it easier to import and use with today's compositing tools.

Even though I work in 3D I agree that its way overused.  But as Say said its also how they use it.  Hollywood producers think that 3D is the IN thing and you will sell movies with it.  I personally prefer movies that use 3D and that I don't always realize it because its so well integrated and used to embelish the look of the movie not to establish it.

When it comes down to it, if you don't have a good story, good actors and a good director you'll have a crap movie.  Which is what happened with Episode 2.  The story had potential, the actors we know are capable of giving oscar caliber performances but there director just couldn't bring those elements together which is why I dispised that movie.
