Hello, my name is Uriel Spears.

When I was a boy my parents purchased a new IBM computer. Horribly outdated by todays standards but quite nice back then. I had barely seen a computer before that time and to own one was really something. Included with the computer were several programs and a copy of Kings Quest VI. The concept of computer games was foreign to me. I popped in the CD, installed the game and begin to play. That moment sparked my lifetime love of computer games, adventure games, and Kings Quest.

The Kings Quest series is not merely a simple group of games. It is something much, much more. They are an amazing and wonderful story. A fantastic tale of a man who faced danger and death for the sake of adventure and love and who spawned a legacy. The series is a chronicle of one of the greatest families to ever emerge.

I played the Kings Quest games and loved them. When Mask of Eternity was released I felt as many of you did, and was horribly disappointed. To me it signaled the death of adventure games and, even more heartbreaking, the death of Kings Quest.

Years passed but my love for the royal family of Daventy never dwindled. One day, when discussing Kings Quest with a fellow adventure game fan, and Kings Quest enthusiast, he told me a rumor. A rumor about some fans, disappointed with the way the series ended, had banded together and were developing a Kings Quest IX. Was it true? I raced home, did a search and discovered the old Kings Quest IX website. I was thrilled. Finally, a group of people who loved the Kings Quest series as much as I had taken it upon themselves to not let the dream go quietly into that dark night.

I followed the progress of the next few years. I visited the website every so often to get glimpses of the upcoming game. I shied away from forums and chatrooms though I did pop into a chatroom once. Not many people were in there, just some of the developers. I told them how much I appreciated the work they were doing and how greatly I was looking forward to the game coming out. One question always hung on my mind though...legality. How could they do this without some big business, perturbed that they wouldn't be getting any money, throw a cease and desist order and wreck all the hard work being done?

My question was answered. One day I brought up the website and read the devastating news that Vivendi had shut them down. I was heartbroken. Graham, Valenice, Rosella, and Alexander would be lost forever without the grace and dignity owed them. It was indeed a black day.

Again, time passed. While playing an online game, one owned by Vivendi ironically, I met a fellow Kings Quest enthusiast. We struck up a conversation. He had not heard of the plans to resurrect the Kings Quest series or if its bitter halt. With much dismay I informed him of the grim circumstances. We agreed it was a horrible loss and that the series and the fans deserved better.

It was this conversation that got me nostalgic. I decided to search and see if the Kings Quest IX site was still around. At the very least I could read the goodbye message and dream about what might have been. I typed "Kings Quest IX into Google to bring up the past.

My heart leapt at what I discovered! Kings Quest IX was given permission to proceed! My God! Words cannot express my joy! When I read the news not long ago, I knew I could no longer remain a silent fan that lurked at the website over several years. I had to express myself.

To the developers who are giving their heart and soul into this game; I thank you. Your work on this project means so much to so many people. You are giving the Kings Quest series the send off that it deserves. Write well the last chapters of Daventry's greatest family. I for one, will never forget the tale.

Uriel is a cool name, I like it. I think there is an angel named Uriel in the Bible, or is it Ariel?  Are you related to Peter Spears? I love the fairytale atmosphere of KQ. I am very excited about playing TSL. The POS team has put in a lot of work. I sure hope Vivendi doesn't give them more of a hard time. Daventry is dear to my heart. I love King's Quest.

Welcome Uriel. :D
That was really touching. :)

I doubt the Peter Spear relation as Peter Spear is Spear, not Spears.

While the only mention of "Uriel" in the Kings James Version of The Bible refers to men, it is in Hebrew lore and legend that one of the Archangels is named Uriel. The archangel Uriel has a little more written on him in John Miltons Paradise Lost. Paradise Lose is a work of fiction, however. The name itself means "Fire of God" or "Light of God". In some legends/cultures Uriel is associated with light, fire, the arts, punishment, war, and in some lore, the archangel Uriel is the actual Angel of Death.

Personally, I cant stand my name. I doubt youd care for it as much if you had to go through life with it. It is not a totally unheard of name but it is very, very uncommon and makes meeting new people difficult. I was hesitant to use it in my post, however, I felt that since I was being open and honest I should use it.

No, Im not related to Peter Spear or Brittany Spears for that matter, thank goodness.

I think it's a pretty cool name. 8)

And if anyone makes fun of it in the future, just say "Yes Uriel.  It means "Fire of God", which is what I will inflict upon you if you keep it up."

Not that I encourage violence or anything...

Yonkey+Violence= Not yonkey! XD I haven't read the entire post, but from what I have read, it is very touching! I know the team will keep going, because fans like you keep supporting them. They know that deep down inside them are a bunch of fans waiting for this game, and they can't let them down!  GO POS!

I believe it was Remiel in the Hebrew lore, and Uriel is his Christian name(and the name Littlewing Pinball used for Angel Egg)

Hello. I hope you will excuse me but after reading Mr Uriel's post I felt  inspired to register and add a few comments and words of thanks of my own.

I have only recently become introduced to the gaming world. I never thought I would find myself in it. All my life was work or study and I was brought up in the conviction that all games are stupid. I had to change my views 360 degrees when i came upon old King;s Quest. I have never before played it and it instantly captured my imagination and my heart. It;s fantasy world took me over completely, especially because I am a big lover of all fairy tales. The series very much reminded me of some of the bes and most loved of them all. I never knew there could be games like this.  I played all of them but inevitable disappointment came with part 8. It was horrible, especially in the eyes of a newbie to the King;s Quest universe. I was pretty angered that Sierra's game developers would just waste the succesful series like that.

So after i played all..I began to wonder. I searched the net looking for something at least remotely similar. Towards my great susprise i came across this site and began vistitng on a regular basis, checking on the progress.

I have been awed and remain awed ever since. To take up such a venture, in spite of all obstacles and difficulties, manifests a great spirit and a great love of what you are doing. And this is admirable. I am not very expressive but I wanted you to know that I take hats off to you for your dedication to developing a sequel to this, as I discovered, much-loved game.

I really felt compelled to write my thoughts after reading Mr Uriel;s post. It tugged at te heartstrings, Mr Uriel.
I have been wanting to do this for quite some time, but I've never been able to pluck up the courage to do it. I tend to avoid expressing myself  on internet forums, much preferring the position of an observer but I find that some efforts just cannot be left uncommented.

So thank you, Silver Lining Developer;s (AI find it a very appropriate name too, considering everything) and thank you all devoted fans that help in the project. You;re doing such a marvelous job with your support, and you all by doing what you do  provide lots of joy for others too.

And PS...the demo you have kindly released just whetted my appetite!

That was nice. Both of them. I wish I could write like that.  As it is you are stuck with my insane humor.  *tries to use ice skates to slip down the hallway while pouring bacon grease all over the floor.*  Don't you all feel lucky?  :suffer:

TribeHasSpoken

Thank you very much, Atratus and Cinderella, for your extremely generous tributes. Everyone on the team, not to mention the forum, knows exactly what you feel. We were sad that all those wonderful memories of the games we grew up with would never come again, and that we couldn't just wipe our memories somehow so we could experience those magical moments again for the first time. Everyone here is driven by one goal, which is to play one last King's Quest game that not only honors the classics but helps their legacy to live on. It is no exaggeration to say that the team owes the fan community a great debt for their support that convinced Vivendi to allow us to continue development of this game. The last thing we would ever wish to do would be to betray that support or let our fans down.
Once the votes are read, the decision is final. The person voted out will be asked to leave the Tribal Council area immediately. I'll read the votes...

I second that, the whole TSL game is by the fans, for the fans, and because of the fans.
