Does anyone know approximately how long the game will take to pass? i.e. in hours. Also, Since its not an RPG, is it possible to make it open-ended?

BoardnationArchive

Bunny Commander:
You'll be occupied for a while  Not sure if we have an exact count, though. It's a big game.

Yonkey:
What do you mean by open-ended?

BoardnationArchive

Jeysie:
Hmm. If he's using RPGs as a reference, my best guess would be that he's asking if there's going to be multiple paths and/or solutions for some (or most) of the game's puzzles. I'd love to see that myself... I love it when adventure games do that.  Although admittedly that does mean a heck of a lot more work...

The Knight:
If I understand the post correctly.  He's asking about how long the game will take to complete(i.e. 10 hours).  I'm unsure what he means by open-ended.  Maybe he's asking if there will be different endings as with KQ6.

BoardnationArchive

Yonkey:
Well, Cesar knows this better than I do.  But the majority of the game will be linear, that is following one plot line.  The game would take much longer to do if there were multiple plots since it's already so huge as is.   There will be two different endings though.

Maybe, by open-ended, he meant there could still be a possiblity for a KQ X, and on... And I think I have also seen that question answered, by saying a lot of loose ends would be put to an end, but there still would be a way to continue the series, if someone wanted.

I don't mind if it's BIG. I LOVE CABLE!

The Knight:
I LOVE CABLE TOO.  I have to keep looking for new things to download.    I hope Quest Studios releases the Hero's Quest soundtrack soon.

Thanks for your input everyone. By open-ended I mean can you still continue from your save after your have completed the game? I.e. can you solve side-quests to get any missed things (items etc).

E.g. Zelda OoT is NOT open-ended, Morrowind is open-ended.
Note sure if its possible to have this in an advanture game.

BoardnationArchive

Yonkey:
I'm pretty sure once you've completed the game, you've completed the game.   That's the way most adventure games work.  Most of the time, you can't complete the game if you're missing items, but some games allow you to solve puzzles with other items.

If you complete the game with a less than perfect score, you pretty much have to restore or restart in order to find out what you missed/skipped/didn't get the full amount of points for.

Side quests are usually present in RPG's, not adventures.

The Knight:
Some adventure games do have side-quests.  Just look at KQ6.

Whatever happens, I await it eagerly

That's no side-quests, that's different endings. And besides, KQ IX is going to have that too (right?).

Yup!   We've said that before.

The Knight:
There sure are side quests in KQ6.  Take the treasure room in the castle.  You don't have to enter it to beat the game, but you do get points and a better ending if you do.  There are some more as well.

Like I said, different endings.

The Knight:
Side-quests almost always have a better ending if you do them.

Ever heard that phrase, you say to-may-toe, I say to-mah-toe?  I think you're arguing the same point, just calling it two different things.
