Open Source?

Will KQIX be, or have parts made open source?  That way people would perhaps be able to create their own adventure games as well.

Say

we are not developing an engine, we are using crystal space (actually available/free for everyone in case anyone wonder), and I dont believe we have open source code, sorry.

Yeah I understand how crystal space works.  It would just be really cool if you allowed people to do some scripting so they could come up with their own games too.

Say

it would be cool, but... first comes first :D !!!

the game first, then eventually whatever else :p

so in the plans of the game development I dont believe it has ever been considered the fact of the open source, that's what I meant :P.

Why not just download whatever a developer installation of Crystal Space would be and use that? I mean, you can already use the engine to make your own stuff. Why work from a game when you can go right to the source and work from the engine itself? It's like developing a game by altering Tierra's KQ1 remake instead of just using AGS yourself.

Say

maybe because of the graphics and interface and such, it is hard to start from scratch :P

but even so... the answer is still no :P

I still sort of fail to see the point in making KQ9 open source when, AFAIK, the engine it's using is available for anyone to use to make games from.

Whether or not IT is open source, I dunno... but still... if it is open source, you should just be using that instead, IMHO, and if it isn't open source, I'm not sure they'd be happy with game creators making it so by open sourcing their own games.

Plus... why would you want an adventure game to be open source? The whole point of adventures is the story and puzzles... if you're able to look at the code, you'll completely spoil both for yourself, and "modding" the story and puzzles seems kind of... odd. (Better to just make your own game in that instance, IMHO.)

I admit I've sometimes looked at game code myself to try to track down obscure death scene triggers for my website, but that's not the sort of thing most open sourcers intend.

The only reason I see in it being open source, is to use the graphics, sounds, etc. (without the code, these wouldn't help much). So somone could try to make KQX, if the KQ9 team didn't want to make it. Although, I'd prefer a KQX team to start from scratch. If they didn't it'd probably be the difference between KQ1 and KQ2, if they did it'd probably be the difference between KQ6 and KQ7.

P.S. I prefer it not be open source, which is rare.
