So, let's hear what are you 5-top all time favortie games and why.

Here's my list:

Gabriel Knight Series

The original Gabriel Knight raised the bar on adventure games to a level never seen before. This is one of the first game with fully fleshed characters out there and with a plot that dealt with a lot more than just a storyline. It went into the character's minds and souls, it established relations. Add to that the fact that Jane Jensen is an incredible storycrafter, the game had awesome puzzles, awesome gameplay, an incredible ending that deeply touched me. Yes, "Sins of the Father" was a definite winner. And, if that wasn't enough, its follow up "The Beast Within" broke all stigmas associated with FMV and simple interfaces, and got it right. Extremely right. It won basically all the adventure game awards of that year and some magazines named it game of the year. If Jane crafted an incredible story with the first, this time she outdid herself, raising the bar once again. Never before had we seen so much feeling and character development in a computer game as we saw in this one, and the fact that it was all FMV helped immensely. Easily, my favorite game ever. GK3 was not as good as the first two ones, but once again, the story was completely mesmerizing. Many believe that this game belonged in the FMV realm. I agree, but I still enoyed it throughfully and even if I prefer the Beast Within, I think this is Jensen's truly masterpiece, storytelling wise. She blended fact with fiction in an almost unnoticeable manner.

Xenosaga Series

If Gabriel Knight raised the bar in the 90s, Xenosaga took it even higher with its first release in 2004. Planned to be a 6th episode series, not as good expected sales make them stop it at Episdoe 3. Each Xenosaga game has about 6 hours of cutscenes, making them a truly epic masterpiece. Characters are extremely well fleshed out (each one of the way too many there are in the story), and the story deals with so many "real-life", touching on the player's feelings. The fact that the story is heavily religious helps as well, making it up to the par with Gabriel Knight 3 and Davinci Code. But the story is so mysterious and so entrhalling that... wow.... It's like playing through a really good, and very deep anime series.

Final Fantasy Series:

Easily one of the most recognisables names in gaming history, Final Fantasy has the distinction of always pushing the boundaries and making it right. It is for Square-Enix what King's Quest was for Sierra. The plots are nicely complicated, the characters are normally well developed, the battle systems are always fun, the bosses are very distinctive, the music is always wonderful. Final Fantasy has such great production values that even if they don't have the great story Xenosaga has, they make up in all other areas where Xenosaga lacks. To me, they have always been the most balanced games ever, and a lot of passion and work have been poured into them, not to mention that they always have the best graphics of the time.

The Longest Journey Series:

The original Longest Journey was one of the first games out there to have such a large scope story set ina fantastic universe. That's what makes it different and special for me. It was the fire that sparkled what I then wrote for The Silver Lining. Dreamfall, on the other hand, simply was a little masterpiece of its own. Though one could disgress that Dreamfall is not really a game, the script has a film quality to it. The dialogues are really smart, the situations are brought into the gamer in the best fashion of good hollywood films (where you say things without saying them), and overall, I hope the saga continues, because it shows a lot of promise.

Kingdom Hearts Series:

I'll start this by saying that after living for 5 years in Orlando, I hate all things Disney. Yet, there's nothing as heartwarming as entering an adventure with Sora, Donald and Goofy. Because so much is tried to be covered here, so many different stories and world togethers, it's really easy to get confused and I agree that the story is not as tight as it can be. But I still enjoy it. It's like being a kid once again back when Disney was special to me. Gameplay is incredibly fun and they even made a lot more fun in Kingdom Hearts 2. Characters are not as fleshed out but, then again, the story doesn't require to go too deep, except for some of the main characters, that really do take on journeys. The game is fantastical and it's my favortie "light" game.

I suspect my answers will be differant from anyone else's.   ;D

  Europa Universals II

A strategy game encompassing the years between 1419 and 1820, this game is a reasonably realistic represtentation of European poltics and exploration.  It lets you play any nation in the world, from the Xhosa to France.  The basic premise is the same as any strategy game.  Collect cash from your provinces and spend it on troops and techs to get take more provs.  It adds a lot of layers though.

It has a lot of historical events eg the League of Cambrai event that modfies the relations between Venice and the rest of Europe or the Sejm events for Poland or expulsion of the Jews for Spain, as well as some random ones.

Diplomacy is needed, as if you do not have a declare war without a generally accepted reason (Casus Belli aka CB) you get internal unrest and everyone else think worse of you.  And if you get too big everyone jumps on you, usually called badboy wars.

Trade is important, a player (like Venice usually tries) can get very rich without attacking anyone. Inflation awaits those who grab too much gold.

There is a lot more (inflation, colonization, ruling mutil-cultural empires is touchy, religion plays a large role in diplomacy, and of course attrition changes military strategy from make a stack and throw it at the other guy).  I love it because it simulates history reasonably well, gives me something to think about and teaches me as well.  ;D  The only weakness is that the AI does not handle all that complexity very well, it is kind of a pushover.

Oh and it has about three hours of catchy Renaissance music as the sound track, which I like.  ;D

Victoria: An Empire under the Sun

If you think EUII is complex this is the grand mother of mind-boggling messes.  It has a terrible manual and weak interface so it is very hard to get into.  I still love it, it has everthing EUII does and adds population units with ideologies, trades and whatnot that make you deal with elections, capitalist investment etc.  I will spare you details.  :P

Kings Quests

I've only played remakes, but I liked the unseriousness and whimsy of the games, along with the plot and satisfaction you feel after figuring out a puzzle.  Though I admit I have quit in frustration more than once after spending a whole evening walking around in circles wondering why I wasn't doing something productive like converting Poland to the one true faith.  ;D

Crusader Kings

1066-1453 A good game at heart but a lot wrong with it.  You are a feudal ruler in the middle ages and you must do whatever it takes to stay in power.  It lacks the economic and diplomatic nuance of the other games though, making it largely a of helm-bashing.  It also lacks the historical events, making it much less educational. To much like Age of Empires for my taste.

That's about all I ever play and I don;t have time to play them as much as I could like, but if were to pick one more it would be Lords of the Realm II.  An old, simple and mostly forgotten game it in the form a Christmas gift introduced me to strategy gaming many years  ago. I couldn't play it worth beans then, since I was only eight. But I will always recall it fondly.   :)

Secret of Mana Series:

One of the less popular series from Square-Enix but definitely my favourite. They are action/RPGs and they always have a great and vibrant feel to them. Although the storylines are sometimes quite basic, due to the fact that each game is based on the Mana Tree and Mana religion. The sprites are always greatly detailed and so are the environments. The art of the Mana games is very close to modern anime styles and the new DS title is set to include anime cutscenes. Some of the more recent Mana games have been flops but the older games are really good. Also Secret of Mana for the SNES was the first multiplayer RPG ever, if I remember correctly.

Oddworld Quintology:

Although it never reached a full quintology, the Oddworld games were some of the most weird, funny and sadistic games out there. XD It was meant to be a twisted look at the world we live in. With a different creature in each game trying to save himself and the rest of his race from evil scientists, corrupt businessmen etc.

The first game featured Abe (a Mudokon), a factory slave who found out that the Glukkons (evil businessmen) needed a new food product to raise profits. They planned to mince up all the Mudokons and make Mudokon pops out of them. Abe escapes the factory while saving the other slaves, but if you wanted to you could also go out of your way to kill all the other slaves (sadistic yet so very fun).

The second game was a bonus game and again featured Abe. This time he was looking to save the rest of the Mudokons enslaved over Oddworld.

The third game featured a weird little creature named Munch (a Gabbit), he was the last of his race. The reason for this is because Gabbit's lungs make perfect transplants for old Glukkon lungs (they're all addicted to smoking). Munch is trapped one day and taken by an evil scientist who experiments on him. He now plans to break free from the lab.

The fourth game had completely different gameplay from the previous three. Rather than being a platform game, Stranger's Wrath turned out to be a cross between third and first person shooter. Stranger's Wrath tells the story of a stranger running from his past and trying to start over.

They're all great games with plenty of humour.

Monkey Island Series:

A great and humourous adventure game series from LucasArts. Although I don't like the fourth installment very much, it is still a good game and the previous three are alot better. Monkey Island is set in the Carribean when pirates used to roam the sea in search of treasure. The first game starts off with a young lad named Guybrush, who wants to be a pirate and so he heads to the Scumm Bar on Melee Island. In order to truly be a pirate he must complete three trials, but the ghost pirate LeChuck sees Guybrush as a threat and plans to stop him. The second game continues the adventure of Guybrush and how he plans to find the treasure of Big Whoop. The third game sees Guybrush trying to save his love, Elaine, from her prison of gold before any pirates take her as their prized possession. The fourth starts back on Melee Island where Elaine has been declared dead and is no longer govenor of Melee. Guybrush must find a way to prove she is alive and also stop the evil Australian named Ozzie Mandril, who is putting pirates in rehab and buying up their land.

Kingdom Hearts Series:

When my sister first bought this game I was thinking "wow, a crappy kids game revolving around Disney." Surprisingly I played it and loved it. It reminded me of when I used to watch the Disney movies as a kid, it had the whole larger than life feel. Kingdom Hearts is a truly magical story about Sora, who has a long journey ahead of him.

The Gameboy Advance game called Chain of Memories is very different from the first. You get given battle cards and these cards allow you to use certain attacks during battles. Also you get cards to use on locked doors, these cards determine what room will lie ahead. The story of Chain of Memories can get rather confusing at points and the battle system tends to be annoying but overall it is a great game.

Donkey Kong Country Series:

The Donkey Kong Country games are by far my most favourite platformers or all time. The Donkey Kong Country games had the best graphics on the SNES at that time. The storylines were always pretty basic but the levels were full of fun and action with plenty of enemies. The worlds were always interesting and each one was always fun to explore. The bosses at the end of each world were always something to look forward to, with each one having a new attack and weakness. Another great thing about the DKC series was the great music, it was calm and soothing or upbeat and fast depending on the mood of the level. DKC2 definitely had the best soundtrack of the series, and it's also the best game of the series in my opinion.

I'll post the details later(too tired to fix the original post ;P), along with adding the two I was unable to decide upon, but Daggerfall, Deus Ex, and Savage are certainly 3/5.

Yonkey

It's pretty hard to pick my top 5 games of all time, but let's see...

King's Quest VI
This is probably the singlemost game in the entire series that got me addicted.  The only gripe I had with it is that it ended right when things started to get interesting. :P  I also think the majority of KQ fans like this game because it was a bit more in depth than a basic treasure hunt with illogical puzzles, and more than a game based on hack-and-slashing your way through to completion. ;)  I love how the setting of our game is based on the Green Isles from KQVI, because as a kid and even today, I always wish I could explore more.

Bejewelled
Someone in high school pointed out this game to me and I was seriously addicted.  The premise is so simple and taken from tic tac toe, but you'll notice that nowadays there are so many clones based on the same functionality.  They're fun because they're unpredictable and they're addictive because there's more than one way to solve them and level up. :P

Super Mario Brothers 3
This was another highly addictive game.  The music, graphics, gameplay, everything was really well done for its time.  Even the cheats (warp whistles) were smartly done, compared to the up-down-left-right code shortcut crap that other games did and still continue to do these days. ;P  It was a really fun game because each world was unique and different.  You literally had to use different powers and strategies to complete different levels.  I also enjoyed the concept of the 7 bosses, as opposed to only beating Bowser.

Poker
While kids prefer playing action and FPS games to relieve stress, I like playing online poker (the free version, of course XD).  It was a bit weird to learn at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's very easy.  It's based on probability and statistics, but it's actually more a psychological game due to the human aspect of it.  It's also based on luck, so you have to go into a tournament knowing you won't always win every hand.  The minute you think you've beaten the odds is also the same minute you'll go bankrupt. ;)

Diablo 2
I only played this game once, but it was so well done that it makes my top 5.  The music, graphics, gameplay, quests, were all really well done! !!! It's a very addictive game, and I would love for us to make a game similar to it in the future.  It's definitely more RPG than Adventure, but there are ways of making it more storyline driven and more intelligent than constantly clicking a mouse button. ;D

It's funny how you find you enjoy your life when you're happy to be alive.

Pacman928

Final Fantasy X

ah, yes.  final fantasy.   this one stands out far from the rest.  it was the first with actual voice acting and the ctb battle system.  i dont want to spoil anything, but the plot is amazing, the graphics are stunning, and blitzball is an awesome sport. ;D

Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction

the best rpg/adventure/hack n slash out there.  the quests were evenly spaced, giving you time to level up, not like some rpgs where you have to go back to fight random battles and cant find any.  the music is great.  i had it stuck in my head for hours.  the best part is battlenet, where you can go online and play with other people and defeat baal.

Guitar Hero

its addicting and my stress reliever.  some newer songs and some older ones for people around 30.  if you can play the guitar, youre good at it.  if you cant play the guitar, you rock at it.  i would classify this as pure fun.

Pacman

the classics will never die.  this awesome game with mediocre graphics and no plot is by far one of my favorite games. pacman has no story, no background, no nothing.  and all you do is eat dots. its easy to learn and challenging for old schoolers.  if you havent played it, go find it.

The Jak Series

a normal guy on a beach has a friend who gets mutated into a weasel, tries to save him, goes back in time, gets captured by the baron, rescues himself, destroys the baron, gets basnished to the wastland, and seeks revenge on the people who sent him there.  a day in the life of jak.  or the entire plot of the games.   ;D

Mary Jane

Metal Gear Solid 3

This game was the culimnation of the series.  Everything that the series had tried to do in the past, this game perfected.  The boss battles, sneaking, and story presentation were all the highlights of the series.  The jungle was a fun place to hide in, and the story was emotional.  The story did twist around on itself every few minutes, but it was easier to follow than it was in the rest of the games.  I think that this is the only game that I have ever played where I did not want a sequel.  I thought that this game said everything that the whole series needed to say, and everything afterwards is just icing on the cake.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

This game was just really fun.  I have always enjoyed arabian setting, so needless to say, I enjoyed this game.  The difficulty was perfect, and even those there is nothing new to be earned by replaying it,  I have played the game several times and enjoyed it more and more each time.

Skies of Arcadia

The best RPG I have ever played, hands down.  The artistic direction in this game was gorgeous.  The flying ships, floating islands, and colorful civilations were all a joy to experience.  I can't describe the pride I felt the first time I came back to my base from a mission and saw my village being built. Brilliant.

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

This is probably the hardest game that I have ever played.  I am ashamed to say that I used a guide for most of it, but it did not subtract from my enjoyment of the game.  This game was the work of a true genius.  I have never seen such beautiful sprites or heard such appealling midi music.  Although I just replayed this game a few weeks ago, I am thinking about replaying it again, right now.

StarFox 64

I was really sure if I wanted to say this one or one of the Panzer Dragoon games, but I couldn't decide wich Panzer Dragoon, so I went with this one.  Something about the simplicity of this game is really appealling.  I don't mind that takes me about 40 minutes to beat it.  I couldn't care less.  I don't need a long game to make me happy.  Heck, I've never even saved my game in StarFox.  I just pick it up, play for a few minutes and put it down. You should see my dog fights with the Star Wolf Team.  We make beautiful art in the skies.
She's back. She's proud. She will overcome!

Deloria

My favorite games:

Quest for Glory IV
Conquests of Camelot
King's Quest VI
Monkey Island III
Monkey Island I (VGA)

My reasoning:

Quest for Glory IV has one of the most captivating plotlines of any computer game I've played before, especially if you've played the previous three. The graphics are gorgeous, the storyline's moving, and the blend of mythology really makes it worthwhile. Some of the death messages had me in stitches. I wasn't too fond of the ending due to the stupid bug that kept resurrecting Ad Avis. ::)

Conquests of Camelot is one of the few games that I truly cherish. That was always one of my favorite games. It was probably one of the things that really got me hooked on Albion in the first place, and at this point, my Anglicism is incurable. ;P Back on topic, it was purely mythological and puzzles could still be incorporated that had to do with mythology and could only be solved by some fair knowledge of ancient Greece or by reading the manual extensively. There were tests in the game that questioned one's integrity and the outcome of the game depended on the choices one made. It also had some great combat and even a jousting sequence. I'm still impressed with Mark Seibert's "Glastonbury Tor" theme.

King's Quest VI: Beautiful graphics, captivating storyline, etc.

And Monkey Island III and I for the dueling. That was the best part of both games. :D Besides that, I truly enjoyed their unique humor and thought it somewhat a pity that one was never able to help Wally in the third one. :P

For being a King's Quest site there aren't as many KQ's up there as you'd think.
Let me see... in no order:
King's Quest V:  It's beautiful graphics, pace, puzzles, variety, humor, action, music, pretty much everything is great.
Lord of the Rings, Return of the King:Great sword-fightin' game, with great graphics.  It has great gameplay, beautiful graphics, and it's perhaps the most bug/glitch free game I have ever seen.  Not to mention one of the great gaming scores of all time.
Lord of the Rings, Battle for Middle-Earth: I also love RTS games, and this is my favorite one (Red Alert 2 being my second fav RTS)
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary game:  This is just a great adventure game with cast voices (so shoot me I'm a Trekkie).  Came out just a bit after KQV.
Space Quest III:  Hilarious game, best of Space Quest by far!
Star Wars Battlefront 2:awesome game.  One of the few FPS' I actually play.
Madden football:What can I say.  Love football.
  Star Wars X-wing:Great flight Sim.
So those are my favorite games.... That was 5 right?  *COunts*  *looks in shock*.  O well, those are my favorites and there is no way for me to choose between any of them.

Pacman928

*counts*  that was 5.  what are you takling about  :stars: :drunk:
