Yeah, same here.

Halloween its a very american tradition, if other ppl wants to celebrate it its a personal call I guess, not many ppl share the same american culture features anyways.

I'm voluntarily non-Halloween, does that count?

Halloween is fun when you're a kid, but IMHO it just becomes a huge chore when you grow up. Of course, I think that's true of pretty much every single holiday except New Year's.

Too darn commercial. Until a few years ago we were still living peacefully, 'shielded' somewhat from the imperialistic commercial monster that is called the USA. But, alas, the walls have tumbled down and the shops think you've found a way to increase their sales even more. So, unfortunately, everywhere you go you see Halloween decorations and commercials about Halloween, so it's pretty difficult to ignore it. But, I will not take part in this, nor any other commercial feast. I don't take part in the Santa Claus-sage, because Saint-Nic traditionally comes December 6, so he doesn't need to come again December 25. Don't get me wrong, I celebrate Christmas, but not the economy swirling around it. I see no need to celebrate Halloween either, Belgian kids already go around for treats on New Year's Day, so they don't need to go trick-or-treat-ing now.
So, no Happy Halloween for me, and I don't feel like I'm missing something either.  :D

This particular imperialistic monster isn't here yet  ;)
If I wasn't on the net, I probably wouldn't even know about Halloween  :-X

Can anyone tell me what the religious meaning of Halloween is? I was kinda wondering about that.  :)

Religious?  Heh, it's just a day where kids dress up in costumes and go door-to-door for candy.  Some people get really into it, dressing up and stuff.  I didn't though.  I haven't gone trick-or-treating since I was like 12 or something.

I don't really celebrate it like a holiday, but for me it's just like saying Happy Valentine's Day.  It's not like I start kissing hot girls all over just because it happens to be that day.   ;D  I wish I could, but that's a different story altogether.   :suffer:   ;D

I know about the dressing up and trick-or-treating and all - US imperialism, remember?  ;)  But I don't supposed they do it for no reason except liking candy. Valentine's day also has religious meaning  :D

Hope that helps. :)

CC: Oh, tell me about the whole stupid Christmas commerical thing. I've worked enough retail jobs during "season" to be sick and tired of the whole thing. In fact, those jobs are pretty much why I started actively disliking Christmas, as opposed to simply being indifferent about it. :P Forget about the whole "Peace and goodwill on Earth" bit... Christmas turns people into monsters!

Thanksgiving isn't that great, either. I hate turkey and stuffing, which pretty much negates half the meal right there. Plus I have a small stomach, so going to any kind of "feast" is a waste of time for me.

The rest of the holidays don't have any rituals I personally am "required" to observe, so that's a good thing. However, I always run into the problem that the buses don't run, and retail jobs are the only things that don't close. So my bosses are like, "What do you mean you can't come in? We're going to get slammed that day!" and I'm like, "As in, I have no way of getting here. What, you think I want to give up getting time-and-a-half pay for the shift?" :P

Once you get out of school, holidays are at best a disruption in your schedule, at worst a disruption *and* stress-inducing. Only holidays I like are New Year's and Independence Day. Neither requires you to buy anything you don't want to, there's most likely lots of public-run parties and parades you can go to, so you can have fun without the fuss, and there's always cool TV show marathons going on. The rest can go hang. And, BTW, bah humbug. ;)

Thanks for the interesting article. Certainly cleared up some things ;D

My roommate's workplace had a little costume thing going on yesterday. It's not too bad if its voluntary... the people who wanna dress up can have some fun, and everyone else just wears normal clothes and has some of the food. ;)

But when it's mandatory, that's a whole other deal. I used to work at a toy store where every Friday and Saturday for the whole month of October you had to wear some kind of costume at work. If it had just been the weekend of Halloween, I wouldn't have minded, but having to wear one every weekend for the whole month was just irritating. :P Not to mention that as a cashier you really need to be able to keep your hands, arms, and torso completely free to move. Since I also hate hats and having things around my neck, that limited my options quite a bit.

Why do holidays always have to get in the way of getting work done? :P :P

Peace & Luv, Liz

Oldbushie

Yeah, that must be annoying! :P I worked at CVS once and that weird vest thing itself was annoying to wear all the time. At least at UPS it was more of a uniform kind of thing and no weird extras that had to be worn. I never worked retail over the holidays, though, must be heck.

My mother never approved of Trick-or-Treating, and I'd have to agree.  Going to other people's houses to blag candy offa them just seems a bit off.

In the 18 years that I've lived, I've only had about 2 trick or treaters, they came to the door at the same time.  That's how uncelebrated it is around here.

Costumes at work gotta suck no matter what I believe :D hahaha costumes = evil, uniforms that looks like costumes = also evil :P

And yes working with public its one of the most horrible things ever, I used to do that years ago and at times you just feel like slaping some of them when they get on your nerves :P, as Jeysie says seasons are the worst !!! its like, not just the fact  it does gets crowded, but I dont know if its just me or something, I do also happen to believe ppl get MORE stupid around holidays too :D

I love Halloween because I get to dress up in a stupid or silly costume for no reason but to do so, and can eat lots of yummy candy (but my roommate bought the candy to give out and I don't like any of it. Meh! >:(

There you can see me as Ron Weasley with my friend, Harry Potter. :)  I have mastered the Ron Face!

I *heart* Halloween, purely for the costumes.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know the pains of annoying customers myself, but I assumed it's because the customers where I worked were Israelis  ;) Here, people tend to think the rest of the world is a bit more civilized  :-\
I don't think we have the whole holiday frenzy here. Sure, people buy more but they don't fight each other over gifts. That's probably because none of out holidays are about giving gifts   ;)
