Luckily, we're still keeping 'Thanksgiving' at bay. But for how long... I don't know. Besides, everything coming from America has already been incorporated into our own culture in some way. Like I said, the trick or treating is on New Year's day, and the children either get a bit of money, or candy, since they have to sing a short New Year's carol. The Santa comes on December 6, and I'm sure every other American holiday is somewhere (be it on another day) overhere too. So why do we need two of them? >:(

PS: Jeysie, I have a small stomach too, that's probably why I don't way much, I may be mixing up cause and result though. :D

Saint Nick is purely about gifts (for the children).

Why just children?

Besides, there was a real Saint Nick who gave people dowries so they could afford marriage... nothing kidlike there. ;)

Hee. Perhaps. It's how often you eat, and what you eat that matters, too. I'm trying to cut back on both.

As for the holiday invasion... I apologize on behalf of those Americans with a conscience for making the rest of you suffer our insanities.

Hey, it's not your fault people like your holidays and want to celebrate them  ;)
It could be a bit senseless though - people here celebrate Sylvester, a holiday named after an anti-Semite pope  :P

The Christian New Year, is just called New Year here, no Sylvester anywhere around. Maybe he's on the front of the calendar, where all the saints are, but I don't usually look at those.

Yeah, I know it's not called like that in some places. That's what we call it here though. I wonder where that name came from  ::)

Nope, Sylvester is on New Year's Eve, not New Year itself.

By New Year I mean the 31/12.
You know, the night when you party, count backwards from 10 and kiss whoever's standing next to you when midnight strikes. That's what we call Sylvester  :)

31/12 is Old Year overhere. When midnight strokes, it's January 1st, so then it's New Year. 8)

Yes, I know the English like to call things the day before the actual event 'Eve'. That's how Halloween was invented. >:(

The English? give me a break...  ::)
It's the Christians who "borrowed" that from the Jews. All Jewish holidays begin at the evening (sunset) of the previous day  8)
