Hm, it hasn't crashed me yet! I have the latest version and plus installed, nothing evil has happened yet.
You seem to have forgotten I am still running Windows95, so I can't download that latest version, I'd have to download version 5, I notice on the website.
The reason why I'm not installing M$n, is not because I'm in another timezone, it's because it's a new program, that'll probably delve right into my registry .Since the Windows-configuration has been running smoothly far longer than it should, I am trying to keep it that way as long as possible, which means no installing of programs delving into my registry, except for games.
So, 'pwease' all you want, I am perfectly comfy being the odd one out.

A timezone difference of one week?  Nah, I know when you guys are online on the forums, so there's no reason to not be online on MSN too.   ;)

Oh yeah T-Knight, I got your request to add too.  :)

OK, MSN officially sucks. I don't think it's possible to connect to the MSN network without IE5.01 or greater installed, for some screwed-up reason. Anyone have any ideas? I had IE5.01 installed for testing purposes, but I uninstalled it, and now I can't remember where I downloaded it from. (The only download I found is ~60MB, and I can't believe I downloaded *that* big a file.)

:o Shame on you!

Although I did some searching and found a web-based MSN client that seems to be working OK for now. Even runs in Opera!
Doesn't all webbased stuff work in Opera (because since it's webbased it doesn't rely as much on yourpc as much as the hosting pc)?

I know, I know. (hangs head) I used to not have IE installed at all. But while doing all-CSS layouts is very freeing, it also necessitates having several different browsers laying about for testing CSS quirks. BTW, Netscape sucks, too. Mozilla and Opera, all the way. ;D (And yes, I know, Netscape 6 is based on the same Gecko engine as Mozilla. But the browser itself is sucky. And the less said about NS4.x, the better.)

Doesn't all webbased stuff work in Opera (because since it's webbased it doesn't rely as much on yourpc as much as the hosting pc)?

Not necessarily. There's some javascript and DOM stuff that's IE (or Netscape) specific, as well as VBScript and Active X, which is also IE specific. Plus Opera chokes a bit on the some of even the standards DOM stuff. So if a site is anything except pure (X)HTML and CSS, and standards-compliant javascript, there's no guarantee it'll work. (shrug)

Anyhoo. MSN Messenger won't install without IE5.01 installed, and I don't understand at all why Trillian won't connect. Why on earth would you need a specific internet browser to connect with a non-browser program to a IM network? Wankers. ...so, how about that irc.freenode.net #kq9 idea? ;D

OK, so does anyone know why it suddenly won't connect? I keep getting "Failed to connect to MSN (12037)." I tried doing a search, but didn't turn up anything useful. And I'm almost certain the problem cropped up after I uninstalled IE5.01. :P

I was getting those too for a few hours last night.  I think it was a problem with the network, but for me most of them said "Service is too Busy".

But I guess you do need IE 5.01 since according to the System Requirements for MSN 6.1 for Win98:

Quote
Microsoft¬ģ Internet Explorer version 5.01 or later must be installed on your computer, though it does not need to be your default browser
