Hi all. Although I'm new here, I've been a lifelong KQ fan and am anxiously anticipating the newest installment in the series.

I'm curious what the rest of you think. Since Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings have been made into blockbuster fantasy films, do you think the King's Quest series (provided extremely good scripts are written) could be made into movies?

I think a prospective screenwriter should start with To Heir is Human, introducing the royal family of Daventry through Gwydion's eyes -- since he, like the audience, knows nothing of them. Perhaps the oracle in the cave (covered by the spiderweb) could briefly relay the events of KQ1 and KQ2.

King's Quest 4 and 6 would also make great movies. Much as I love 5 and 7, I'm not sure how they're translate to the big screen. 8 would be dumb, obviously; but 9, I'm certain, will be the greatest of them all.   ;D

What do you think?

Welcome Prowlipan! Make sure ou introduce yourself on the introduction thread.

While KQ does have some good games, and some that aren't so good,  I personally don't think it will ever make the big screen. The only way it will ever be made, in my opinion, would be if a fan made it.

Does anybody even remember who Wormy is?

That would be totally awesome, but I seriously doubt they ever will. I like the idea of starting with the third game though. It would be interesting to see it without knowing who Gwydion was. (Plus it's my favorite game  :))

I like the idea, especially the part about starting with KQ3, but it would be so ADD. XD KQ3 and KQ4 lead into each other well enough (since they are directly consecutive :P) but it would be like "Wait. I thought this guy was the main character. Now what's going on?" *repeat for every new game* :P

While I think the idea of a KQ-based/inspired movie would be good, I think there are other Sierra game series that would be much more accessible in a movie format... most notably Gabriel Knight (Horror/Thriller), Space Quest (Comedy), Police Quest (Action), Leisure Suit Larry (Comedy) and Quest for Glory (Fantasy/Comedy).

Of those series, I think a Leisure Suit Larry based/inspired movie would be the most likely due to the success of other sex-related comedies like Porky's and American Pie.  A Quest for Glory based/inspired movie would be good if it was done in the same fashion as a Monty Python film.  A Space Quest based/inspired film might be doable... but it would result in a lot of comparisions to Space Balls and other Star Wars parodies.  And we already got a Police Quest based/inspired film in the form of S.W.A.T.

Now a Gabriel Knight based/inspired movie... that would be interesting...  but only if Jane Jenson was involved in a creative capacity.  And well anyone who has followed the turbulent drama that is Gabriel Knight since 1999 knows the possibility of that happening isn't too great.

Thanks for welcoming me, everybody. I agree with this problem, namely that a sequence of KQ movies would be difficult for the audience to follow if the main character was constantly changing. That's why I say the project would depend on ideal scripts, i.e., storytelling that is able to sort through all of the seemingly erratic information scattered throughout the computer games and consolidate it into one definite plot.

In other words, perhaps the first two movies would be best advised to focus on Alexander's story -- KQ3 and KQ6 -- providing sufficient detail about the royal family's background to make a seamless transition into, say, Rosella's story (effectively a prequel) in KQ movie #3. The plot sequence would have to be reworked, is what I'm saying; that doesn't mean the fundamental substance of the plot would have to be changed.

And yes -- it would have to be done in the same passionate "fan" mentality as possesses the wonderful creators of KQ9. But this holds true for any good story.

That would be the coolest thing i've heard in a long time. I ubses over King's Quest. I think they should base is on KQVIII because the puzzle solving in the earlier games would make a slightly boring movie. King's Quest :Mask of Eternity, would make a great adventure movie.

I think it could happen, and I think it COULD be really really good. I think some new suprise scenes would be interesting. I think it would be awesome.

jazzguy_87

I think King's Quest would make it more likely as an animated series.
