Dear TSL groupies,

For the amount of time that we have been waiting, continuously visiting the site eagerly each day, we have seen no results, no progress and few updates! I have a gracious respect for what you are doing by keeping the legacy going, but these forums will not last forever, people will grow tired of them as they see no signs of change, no new information, nothing. I am prepared to wait as long as it will take, but I fear, the forums shall turn to nothingness. Please, I think that you should at least tell us when you expect the game to be released, as topics become less and less each day. Give us something to talk about, keep the forums and the legacy going, please. This is not a jab at you for being lazy and unbothered, as you are all heroes in my eyes. Thank you. Lil_saintmc

Whilst the groupies are at liberty to speculate, they know no more about the game's release date than anyone else.  ;) Groupies are just people who have spammed posted a lot in the forum. :)

The best answer is just "It'll be ready when it's ready" though, I think. It's all volunteer and Say and others in charge cannot predict with certianity who will be working on the project in a month or a year, and so can't say how much work will get done at that time.

Also a chap working on 0 AD, a similar freeware project, made a good point when replying to a request of this sort.  Most companies games are not announced to the public until they are largely complete.  Freeware games like this tend to be announced earlier in development, and so seem to take longer relative to other games than in fact they do. :)

And, to tide you over, check out the new journal update here. I know it's hard to remember, but the team members have lives as well. Trust me, I know! Even my work has begun to slack thanks to school!

Neil, you didn't just read that XD

LOL Don't worry.  I'm in the same boat, myself. ::)

Real life tends to take its toll and can really affect workflow in a project like this, where people are volunteering their free time.  Just hang in there.  The game will be released when it's ready. :)

I know real life takes precedence, and I respect and understand that. Still, I feel like my excitement about this project is beginning to wane; not because it hasn't been released yet, but because almost NOTHING new has been said about it in months. We got the demo, yes, but that was in July, and we've only seen two new screenshots in I-don't-know-how-long. It'd be a lot easier to maintain my interest in this project if I had some sort of knowledge about what was going on with it. Screenshots, progress reports, concept art, just SOMETHING. It may seem like we've been waiting longer because the game was announced early in its development, but there must be something you can share with us. The new journal entry basically only tells us that the project still exists, without providing us with any information at all. I'm not asking you to speed it up, or sacrifice real life for the project, just for some sort of progress indicator; little things like screenshots to tide us over in the meantime. I think that's reasonable to ask; it's a sentiment I seem to be picking up from all over the boards.

It's just rather demoralizing to check on the project's progress for three months or so only to hear that "7 people have signed up for the fanlisting!" Vaguely noteworthy, yes, but it doesn't really have much to do with the game, and it doesn't interest me the way things having to do with the actual game do. Interviews, screenshots, art...just a little something here and there, ya know?

I still think there's great work going on here, and I look forward to the game.

Mine too. So busy... :sweating:

As for a progress metre or something, that would be kinda difficult because everyone is at different points. In a normal environment, everyone can view other team mates work by walking over to their desk. That's rather difficult for us because we can only get in contact via IM and email. So by the time we got a status report from each member, the progress would have already moved along further. :-\

I don't think anyone would mind if the data was a little bit out of date. That's better than nothing, which is the amount of info we're currently getting. All the last journal entry really told us was that the game still exists and that the team members have lives outside of the game. Am I alone in wanting more info than that?

racx_00

You are currently getting information, it just doesn't seem to be enough for anyone. We're busy, we don't have time to mess around with the details, we just wanna complete this game and get it out there for you all.

Dude we need a little bit of whats going on like a picture, a demo update anything like the other guy said. Even a contest might tide us over. Dude your fanbase right now is abount 10-20 regulers who have false hope about the site getting an update. I warned people about it 3 months ago and did they listen no they just kept telling us everything we already knew, which is pretty agravating. Better do somthing before graham says "Why don't you give my fans progress i quit im not being a character in this game anymore". :P
My prediction is the first part will take another 1-2years.

ok, I'm sorry, but this just cried out to me for this: "I warned you, but did you listen to me? Oh, no, you knew it all, didn't you? Oh, it's just a harmless little bunny, isn't it? Well, it's always the same. I always tell them, but do they listen to me? Oh, no..." ~Tim the Enchanter (Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail, of course)

Purely as an item of curiosity, the regulars are here to communicate with each other much more that because of the game. Most of us care to some extent at least about the game, but I at least come here daily to look for PM's from my friends, not updates about the game. ;) If you are simply waiting for the game to come out, you are correct. If you do not care about the community, checking the site frequently is a waste of time. You can get major updates directed to your email inbox, others here can tell you how.  Personally, I recommend you do so and then try to forget about TSL. The email will remind you at the proper time.

That is my personal advice to you, not because I think it would be a bad thing if POS were to give more progress reports, but because I doubt you will get them no matter how you beg and plea, demand, threaten or whatever.  Thus, it will simply save you some angst and Say some annoyance if you stop and forget about it until your email reminds you.

I am of course, not involved in the process of the release of progress updates in any way, and all my talk about how often they will be released is pure speculation on my part. Use it or not as you will.

I'm trying to be as civil as possible here. I don't need to be talked down to for putting my personal feedback in the "Feedback" section. I honestly don't know what information you think I'm getting, because all I've seen recently is "The game's not dead, but remember that we have lives outside of the game." I understand and respect that, and I'm not getting on anyone for the pace at which the game is moving. All I'm asking for is some more info tidbits. Screenshots or something. Is that really so unfair to ask?

The community may be large and vibrant, but this is still a site about a game in progress, and if coming here for info about that game is a waste of time, where else are we supposed to go? Many people come here for the community, but a good deal also come for the site's intended purpose, which is information about The Silver Lining. And I do have major updates sent to my email, but I haven't seen a message from this site in months. This is the feedback section, and I think we should be allowed to voice our opinions about what we'd like to see on the site without being scolded for doing so.

The thing is, it's been asked for before. And, when they're released, they're released. Trust me, I sympathize with you. And, there are at least two major departments working towards the game. And I know how frustrating it is to wait for information! Believe me, been there, done that, got that tee shirt...I'm investing in the jeans next :P Anyway, if you haven't gotten on the mailing list, I would suggest you sign up for it. That way, as soon as updates come out, you will know about it. :) And I know how tiresome it is to hear "patience" but unfortunately, that's all I can tell you right now.

Ahh, just read that you are on the mailing list. Awesome ;D The team DOES appreciate your feedback, I hope you know that. I'm sorry you've felt scolded for voicing your opinion. The only thing we ask is for the fans to keep it civil...and I see you have. :) Thank you.

You will have nowhere else to go. That is frankly why I advised you to forget TSL for now. My apologies if this offends some fans, but I think it is best thing you can do for the time.  I may be wrong, I have no official standing or knowledge, but my heart tells me nothing said here will much affect POS policy about releasing info.  Thus, the only way to avoid disappointment when nothing is released is to stop caring if anything is released. Not the advice you want to here, and probably not the advice POS wants me to give.  Yet it was asked that somethng more besides 'patience' be said in reply. Now it has.

kq fan007

No we cannot forget TSL because if we do this site will turn into a ghost site and then how will that give the TSL staff any encouragement to complete the game.

This game was built upon fan support and forgetting TSL now would only kill it.
