How do you like your endings?

One ending
Multiple endings

GAH. Again horribly late so my apologies. Final year of uni, new job, you've heard it all before :p

So endings. I think I'd have to say on the whole I like to have one definate ending as too many times I've played games that have LOADS of different endings (I'm looking at you Chrono Cross) that really don't adda whole lot to the story. When theres one ending the writers can really milk the overall story for all its worth and get a big bang or maybe even just a poignent finish.

My predictions for this one will be though...MULTIPLE ENDINGS!

I agree one ending is a lot nicer in most cases, however, there is that rare game out there that has a lot of endings like KQ VI for example where they actually work well. But overall, one ending is the best way to go IMO.

I vote......nothing. It really depends on the game. Often times in the past there's been adventures that throw in multiple endings just for replay value, but out of the endings that are possible, most of them are short and not good, so you end up annoyed finishing the game rather than pleased. On the other hand, many games that only have one ending also make the mistake of too short, lousy endings. So I'm on the fence here, cause as I said, it really depends on the specific game.  ;B

Most games I've played have just had one ending, but I think multiple endings would make games a lot more interesting and add to the replay value.  It's fun to see different outcomes. :D

I'm not sold on either; I haven't played many that have multiple endings, so my opinion might be different if I had. But I think I would prefer one ending, as I like knowing that ending is really what happened. (Similarly I don't like stories with open endings, I want to know what definitely happened)

I love opened endings! They give me a chance to let my imagination run wild and think about what could have happened. I LOVE IT.

I love multiple endings as long as they're interesting and well-executed. It makes me look forward to replaying the game and finding out new things or solving new puzzles. I also like bad-but-funny endings, such as the one in KQIV where you have to marry Edgar in the end. XD But I do agree think that there shouldn't be too many alternate endings, and that there should always be an ultimate ending that will leave everyone satisfied.

I'd have to say that I think that I like multiple endings as long as they are well-done and add to the story. However, there is also something to say for the single ending, like not being confusing. On the whole, I'd say it depends on the game and on the quality of the endings.

Ok, lets assume all the endings are well written and well executed. In that case I prefer one SUPER happy ending, and maybe several others, so I'll vote multiple  8)

It really depends on the game and how it was written.

Games like Wing Commander had winning and losing paths and thus multiple endings is perfect. It also increases the replay ability.

Other games with singular core story line just don't work well with multiple endings and the replay value isn't good when they do.

Obviously the ending itself must be satisfying to keep fans interest both to replay and/or to buy the next game.

Ultimately my answer is both but Ii would prefer multiple ending so that I can replay the game and feel like it got my moneys worth.

One ending

That's more than enough, unless there are more games in the making.
But it needs only one per game.

Well there are games where you have to choose between good or evil, then multiple ending would be allowed.

There are some REAAAAALLY long games where if they had multiple endings, I'd just get so frustrated that I'd give up. :P It really depends on how many endings we're talking about. XD An ending and an alternate or two=fine. 26 different endings? Pretty bad, except for certain kinds of simulation games where the whole point is to see how you end up.

Overall, I like one ending. It gives me a sense of unified closure with other friends who played the game. XD

Plus, they're usually a lot better quality (like graphics and stuff.)

I like many, but my mind is jaded by too many strategy games. ;P

Vinstepula

I wouldn't care either way.
Just as long the endings are good and add to the story.

Although, seeing how everything is.... one ending probably would be the best. Enough people already mess up on one ending as it is.  :P There's been many games that I played that had the most stupid endings.

I love well written multiple endings! i like having to choose what path to try to follow, but I don't like a game w/a TON of endings. In my opinion, I think games should have 1-2 good endings, and one completely awesome one  ;D

Multiple Endings; it makes the story more realistic and more interactive.  Plus you can play them over and over  ;D

Indeed so. :) Games generally get old after the first few times that one's played them and in adventure games especially, fans are then reduced to finding out all the different ways the protagonist can die. :P
