You seem like more of a TSL-pessemist than a KQ-fan to me.
Oddly enough, I find devoted people trolling others who say something that could possibly be misinterpreted as pessimism, worse than actual trolls.
Yes, I do apologize for that kq fan007, I was feeling mildly angry and I was especially unhappy to find yet another post like that. But I still am a little irked at you because of your above post. I know your enthusiastic, but when it comes to updates, I'm sorry; you'll just have to wait. Your fighting a losing battle. I know that this sounds mean and harsh but it's the thing we ALL have to realize. Everyone is just as anxious as the other and we have to realize that we just need to hang in there a little longer. The game will come faster than you think, and when it's here, it'll be worth it.

And Deloria thank you for pointing that out, know I feel ashamed of myself...:(

Ok, I'm going to try to take this one step at a time :)

So if you want to call music and pictures updates then let me rephrase my question "Where are the progress updates?"

Just a couple weeks ago, Michael Fortunato came in with an update that was on the forum. It's posted here somewhere and linked to within the last 24 hours. :)

But whenever someone asks this question they get the moderators most favorite answers: "You know that if we gave you lots of updates it would spoil the game for you and we wouldn't want that :)" or "If we gave a release date something would come up and we would have to change it so we won't give you one :)" or my personal favorite " Would you rather have the game come out sooner or have a couple of more updates :)"

I actually have been a mod for over a year now, and I don't think I've ever said anything like that. I know everyone is trying to be understanding, as GunHoMac said, about the team not being paid to work on this game. I understand it can be frustrating. And I know my frustration level was up there at times when I was a fan. Now that I'm a team member, I know there's work being done. I may not know WHAT work it is, since as a mod, I don't have any specifics, but I know it's being worked on.

Well I can answer all three of those replies 1. People don't need to hear the plotline or see 101 game screens, all they want to here is "We had a really good week, we got alot done" or "We were pretty busy so not much was done this week" what I wish they would do would be to just give us a percentage like" well we're 85% done so far"

I think everyone knows that Neil and Cesar and Michael got together over the last week or so to work on the game in person. I believe Jon was there, and maybe some others. But, after talking to Neil and asking him how much work they were able to get done...I was told that in one day, a scene went from 20% to 80% complete...something that would take weeks to complete. Now remember, this is just ONE scene. And Neil once explained it to me. When you're working all online, someone like Cesar looks at something and says "I want it to be richer...or less purple...or...etc"...and you can do your best to satisfy them. But it's much easier to do it in person and not through email, MSN, and other ways. And much quicker.

Quote from: kq fan007 on August 18, 2007, 04:39:05 PM3. Updates would not take anytime at all from the developers despite what other people say, all they could do would be to make a thread on the forums where everyone on the team would take maybe 1 minute each week and write a little something about how much progress they made this week.

Actually, it does take more than a minute to write up a post. A person may be a fast typist, but between putting thoughts together, trying to keep from typing out any spoilers, and typing everything out, it can take more than a few minutes. Plus, you end up having to read over and comment on others comments. Which, is why it's a good thing we have mods. I've sent out many emails to team members telling them to check out a thread or a post so they can comment and help out.

*agrees with Neil* And also, you can tell by reading people's posts whether they're optimistic or pessimistic. I wasn't labeling one person in particular, but saying overall, there are quite a few pessimistic people out there :)
I think it's ridiculus to call people pessimistic when they realize that 3 pictures and 1 music clip in 6 months isn't alot.

We have just begun having monthly contests and prizes. They've been going on for about five months now. So far, all the prizes have eventually been released to the public (one contest was the smiley contest). I know I'd rather have one small monthly update than one, once a year, huge update. Sure, yes, I'd still want a large update. But what's the use complaining about small updates. I mean...seriously, the team doesn't have to allow us to release the prizes. In other words, we could've gone the last five months without anything. But the team was gracious enough to allow us to release the prizes to the public.

Well, let's get a couple facts straight first.  The last update was not 6 or 9 months ago.  It was 5 days ago, and prior to that it was 2 months ago in June.  The people that participate in contests got to see these updates even sooner. 8)
Yes Yonkey, the last non-photo/music update when someone on the TSL team actually spoke was 6 months ago.
Again, as I said, Michael gave an update within the last couple months :)

Actually, I went searching for it and here it is

So, if you truly are enthusiastic about the game, you could try showing it better by participating in the monthly contests we run.  If you don't want to do that, then you'll just have to have patience. :)
So Yonkey your saying that we have to work to get even a meager update?
No, he's saying that if you want to have some fun while you wait for updates, then you can participate in the contests. :)

But all in all what really frustrates me is not the lack of updates, but the reason why there has been a lack of updates, I've spent the whole day thinking about this but I cannot think of one good reason why TSL isn't doing better with updates. Can anyone tell me why? ???

Because the team is busy :)

I hope that helped some :) I tried to clear up quite a few things.

Oh, and we need to keep this thread nice. If there's even the hint that it's going to come to the point where there will be arguments, I will lock the thread. :)

Koko's 100% correct, and the only thing I'll add is that my definition of a web update is something never-before-seen that has now been released.  It could be artwork, music, journal entries, etc.  Progress updates are completely different.  We only post them publicly on occasion, and there are very few development teams out there that post them regularly.  If you went to one and asked, they'd either: ignore your request completely, give you a very vague indication of status, or they'd lie and just tell you whatever you want to hear.  No one will give you an exact percentage until they're ready to release.

I'm sick of going around in circles. The question of this thread is "how often is the site updated?" not "how often does a team member post a progress update?"

So it's been 5 days or so since an update and if the monthly contests continue, you'll be getting an update once a month or so. There, answered.
