Fun With Cliches
« on: August 03, 2004, 06:12:30 PM »
What would you folks peg as being some of the more prevalent cliches and stereotypes, etc. in adventure games?

Can be anything... puzzle types, plot conventions, character archetypes... just whatever it is that makes you go "Oh, no, not *another* _______!" or "Oh, look, it's the obligatory ________." and that sort of thing while playing an adventure.

Peace & Luv, Liz

Dispel potions.

Yeah, why did every QFG had to have one? it seemed a bit forced, even.

Stairway of doom.

Also: mountain paths of doom.

Go to www.eviloverlord.com, that has nearly all the clichs you could possibly want!
When cities burn and armies turn,
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day.
But warriors know it in their marrow when they die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have fought at all.

Or google up the list of movie cliches!

(e.g. whenever hero/villain tries to escape using the lift/stairs, the villain/hero can catch up with him by using the stairs/lift!)
(or, anyone who coughs in a movie will probably die within the next three scenes)
