The open link in a new page is easy to do.  I think it's a parameter you specify in the getUrl() function, whether you want the page to be opened in the same page, new page, etc.  But, usually if the link in a flash file is to an html page, it will open in a new page.  But, if the content is within, it's considered poor design to have a flash open another page and make you download another flash file, then have different ones for each page of info? yikes, talk about inefficient!  One of the advantages of flash is that you can have unlimited pages of information and never have to reload another page.  Sometimes the information is preloaded while you're reading one page, so the next information doesn't even have to be downloaded.

I think I mentioned the copy and paste thing before, all you have to do is set a text field to Selectable and the user can copy its info.  Most of the time, Flash acts like a jpeg and you can't copy the text within, working like a security feature.  You can even make HTML do this too through some javascript thing -- disallow copy and pasting or even viewing the source code.  The designer should make fields that are meant to be copyable, selectable.  Things like contact info, phone numbers, names, and just general information that a user might want to copy.  But since most flash is extremely visual, you'd probably be better off taking screenshots! ;D

Most Flash sites are intended to be visual though, so the emplasis isn't really on displaying large amounts of text.  If they have a low-bandwidth version of their site it would most likely be less graphic intensive, more text-based and you could continue to browse it how you like. ;D

Hey Jeysie, looks like what you were hoping for does exist.  It turns out Flash MX 2004 does support CSS:  http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/productinfo/features/static_tour/text/  :)

Well, cool. Now, if they give me my right-click and "Open in new page" and my copy-n-paste functions back, I won't complain as much. ;D Maybe in the next Flash version. ;)

makes me wonder now what flash version do you have? MX does all that, Im not kidding, and with flash you dont need right click btw, you can adapt all those elements from that menu into the same interface for all you'd like, such as open in a new window and select text and etc. The point is, you can do that on flash.

I have whatever the latest version of the Flash player happens to be. ;D

Seriously, if I had $200 to spare on software right now, I'd personally be buying Excel or Access to increase my marketable office skills, not buying Flash authorware. (Of course, if I actually had $200 to spend on software, it would probably be because I already had a kick-butt job, but that's besides the point.) I'd love to futz around with Flash at some point, but since I can't think of any practical use I would personally have for it, it would only be if I could get a freeware or trial version, and if I had a lot of free time.

So right now I'm stuck with whatever stuff all the Flash authors out there want to program into their creations for us users. ;)

I just went and checked Macromedia's website, and... you're right, Flash MX isn't $200. It's $499. Heck, for that money, I could be 1/3 to 1/2 of the way to buying an entire new computer. :P

Link to Macromedia Store thingy, because the plain URL was way too long

Well, I have made ONE flash movie..but it sucks mega ass..the original was a bit better (this is a recreation, made like 2 years after the original was lost), but here it is anyhow..http://www.dark-stars.net/ladybugs.htm

Aww, that's cute!  But that's shockwave btw, not flash.  It's actually pretty good, considering how complex the movements and random colours are.

If you want to improve it, I suggest to make the pictures vector-based (so the edges aren't so rough), maybe radial gradient fill them too.  Also, to make it more interactive, you could make the ladybug the user clicks on enlarge like the red one does.  I know it doesn't sound like much, but it will give u a lot of practice with the program, and the interactive part I mentioned can be done in different ways.  :)

Well, the original one WAS flash, and it was much better.  we had a better image editor in class, so the ladybugs looked less pixilated.

Making it user interactice would be difficult, and not only for programming, since if you notice, some of them movie pretty fast across the screen!
