I got my wisdom teeth out in August and my gums still have holes in them; my problem was that I got dry socket and was brushed off by my oral surgeon until it was too late to fix it, jerk. Ah well.

All four of my wisdom teeth were impacted, growing into my molars and into my jawbone too, and considering how bad it was supposedly, I guess it wasn't terrible. My problem was that the surgeon said to call if I had really intense pain, because that's a symptom of dry socket, which is more of a pain in the ass than actually painful. I called him and the nurse couldn't fit me into the schedule until over a week later, when he looked at me, said, "Well too late to do anything now" and sent me on my not-so-merry way. It's not painful, it just means that the holes in your gums heal VERY slowly. Like, I got mine out in August and they're still not closed up yet. I feel like sharing this, because no one told me WTF dry socket was, just to BEWARE! :P

Also, I like Owl, and owls in general. Just not Cedric. I left him on the island with the harpies the first time around and man, did that make the ending disappointing.

Aww, thanks. :)

I'll have to keep that in mind when I get mine done next year.

I *hate* harpies. They always kill me in Serious Sam. I wouldn't want to give them the pleasure of getting to eat Cedric anyways. :P

I'll keep this information in mind when I get my wisdom teeth pulled. I'm hoping that I don't get dry socket, because it sounds pretty painful.

I have four, yes, four, wisdom teeth, that's where my geniality comes from. Haven't visited a dentist for years now. But even when I was, they still look the same now than they did then, and she never said anything about taking them out. So if they never start acting up, I'm going to keep them. Especially now when I read all these posts. I think there's not one of them that has 'emerged' properly.

And lose my wisdom?!?!? :o

I also have all four of them, and they never gave me any trouble. Maybe it's because I have such a big mouth :P

Had my consultation today. Apparently I'm lucky as not only do I only have three, the one I'm missing is on the bottom which are harder or less painful or something. And the other two will be pretty easy to get out. I'll be put to sleep though (my mother wasn't, and she said she really wished she had been)

Gee, I just love to have surgery during spring break. ::)

That's when I had mine. I said I would be in bed for at least four or five days...I was only needing to be in bed for a couple, but I stayed in bed those extra days just to rest up. If only I had known how easy that semester was in comparison to the other 10 or 11 I went through :P

Let me tell you a story of a boy who said he would never get his wisdom teeth taken out!

He was in his late teens. A few visits, across several months, to the dentist resulted in three separate orders to get his wisdom teeth taken out. He refused. After all, they did not cause him any pain whatsoever. He kept hearing horror stories of wisdom teeth pullings. His resolution not to get his wisdom teeth taken out only strengthened. His wisdom teeth started to poke out through the skin. It was neat. There was no pain. He would not have to get his wisdom teeth taken out after all!

One day, he woke up. This day was different than all the rest. He could not open his jaw all the way. Well, in truth, he could; however, the wider his mouth opened the more pain he received. Sure enough, it was his wisdom teeth. They had betrayed his trust. They apparently did not want to be part of the cool crowd that never caused pain. Little did those backstabbers know, late night parties with the molars and incisors would become a thing of the past. This boy decided to have them removed.

He and his mother arrived at the dental surgeon's office early. He could not wait to get these punks out of his mouth. When he was called in to the back, he was assured that he would experience no pain. They gave him an anesthetic through his blood stream. It burned as it went up his arm, and he told the surgeon so. The only reply he got was, "Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that." The next thing this boy knew, he was in his own bed at home. He felt woozy from the drugs, but he felt no pain.

Hours later, it hit him as the medication wore off. "HOLY CRAP! This hurts!" he said to himself. His mother, being the merciful person she is, gave him pain killers. As he inspected his mouth with his tongue, he noticed cotton balls wedged in the back of his mouth. They were soaked with blood. His mother told him the cotton balls were necessary to prevent dry sockets. So it became a daily routine of removing and replacing the cotton balls. It hurt at first when he took out the cotton balls because the wounds were not completely healed. However, later, this pain lessened as another one increased. His teeth were sore from clamping down on the cotton balls for so long. After a few weeks of this routine, his wounds were healed to the point where they no longer needed cotton balls. "HECK YEAH!" he shouted. No longer would he have to endure the taste of constant blood in his mouth. "WOO HOO!" he thought to himself.

But this was not the end of his problems. It was late at night when it happened. He was brushing his teeth. One little bristle merely tip-toed across one of his partially-healed wounds. :o "YEEEEEOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!" He yelled so loud he felt as if the neighbors had heard him. From then on, he became extra careful when he brushed his teeth.

Today, he will tell you that he is extremely happy that his wisdom teeth are gone. Well, technically, they are partying by themselves inside a little yellow envelope which is stored inside a drawer.

:suffer: :suffer: :suffer: I am to entertain. ;D :P

Well, keep in mind the key points in my story. Always switch your cotton balls out, and as a side note, do not stop putting them back in until the wounds have mostly healed or you'll increase the chance of getting dry sockets. The worst part is not the wounds' pain. It's the tasting of blood constantly throughout the day as well as the pain your teeth will feel from clamping down on the cotton balls all day long. Once it's over though and they're fully healed, you will never have to worry about them again for the rest of your life. Keep that in mind when you're dealing with this ordeal. :)

Maybe I'm just lucky as I had all four taken out at once and never had a problem. I was back at school in three days.  :D

back in 3 days? I could have come back to school the day after. The trouble was it was done during my holidays.
As already told the second time was the worst time, and since I had some days off I stayed the second day in bed reading books. The first time only give me a rainbow cheek.. The surgeon told me the next time that that could be an effect of the local anesthetic.

Haven't been posting much lately, and I don't know how much I'll be doing so the next couple of days, depends on how I feel after my surgery tomorrow for my wisdom teeth. :P

Yonkey

Don't worry, you'll be in pain but it won't affect your hands or fingers. :D

Just kidding. :P  As long as you put ice packs on your cheeks and eat semi-solid foods or liquids, you'll be fine.

I think I think it's going to be worse than it will be cause my sister had hers done really early, so her surgery was a lot more invasive and painful.

Yonkey

I had mine done early as well (when I was 16), but it really wasn't that bad.  You just feel like you have a nagging toothache afterwards. :P  While they were doing the actual operation, I didn't feel anything.  You just hear a bunch of drilling machinery noises. XD
