I started Kings Quest 5 when I got the compilation because I hadnt played it in years. I played up to like the middle of the game where I had 1 chance to throw the boot at the cat to save the rat. I didnt know I had to do that and I saved my game. Then I read a walkthrough because I was stuck because the rat couldnt save me. So I had to restart which made me upset but I did it anyways. And then I played all the way to the end of thegame (and used a walkthrough the whole way through so this kind of thing didnt happen again). I had like 3 more things to do until I beat the game and i didnt have the rotten cheese!...So i look back a few steps to see if I had missed something...And i didnt read the part about getting the rotten cheese while you are in the cell...so now if I want to beat it I have to restart AGAIN. Thats what makes me mad about kings quest lol. I love it still though. Im making my boyfriend play Kings Quest 5 (hes never played) until he gets to the part that I stopped at...and we are going to play the end together so I dont have to go through it again :D

Anyways....does this stuff happen to the rest of you kings quest players?

All the time (KQ is notorious for dead ends). When I was playing KQV, I didn't go into the crystal cave after defeating the yeti, so I didn't get the crystal. So I was stuck when I came to the watchers in front of Mordack's Castle. My dad was also playing KQV at the time, and he had picked it up, so after he used it to go past the watchers, I had to revert to an older game and get the crystal. That taught me to have multiple saved games whenever I play Sierra games, and it has served me well. ;)
All that is gold does not glitter
Not all who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not touched by the frost

From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king

Yeah - I do that with all of my games but for some reason this one wouldnt let me have multiple saves. Maybe my computer memory is to full  :-\ Either way...im going to finish it one way or another!  ;D

In the Save dialog, you can change the directory of where you want to save, so pick a directory on your hard drive that you can remember, and save there. (You just have to change to that directory every time you play the game.) That's what we had to do when we played KQV, since the directory the game started with was the CD directory, and of course we couldn't save there.

I also had multiple save games.  It was a standard feature in King's Quest like how I had not gotten the necklace for Cassima in King's Quest 5 and had to go back to an earlier game and find my mistake.  King's Quest 5 seemed to be one that it was especially easy to forgot something and then you had to restore to go back to an earlier game.  I wonder if TSL will be like this as well.

No problem. ;) I assume it's working now?
