Instead of Remakes, and plus versions of games, why don't these talented designers and programmers out there make original games in the KQ series in VGA. There's a lot that could be expanded on. You have all of King Graham's past to work on, you have the earlier eras of Daventry, and could make an epic, Arthurian adventure about it's founding or some such topic, you could make a game about the time between KQ2 and KQ3...It'd be much more interesting than playing advanced versions of games I've already played before

Well, TSL IS making a new game...what once was considered KQIX. :P But I agree, there are a lot of remakes out there, and from what I can tell, the makers have done wonderful jobs :)

It makes me wonder that once TSL is released after it has been cleared by Sierra and if it is a huge hit then whether or not Sierra will decide to make another game based on the success of TSL.  It would be interesting to see if it is part of their marketing plan and TSL had a stake in making it a reality.  Otherwise, why would Sierra have cared about TSL at all and issued a cease and desist order last year.

I wonder about that too. I want to get everyone I know to play it :D

As one of the members of Magic Mirror Games (we are developing the KQIV remake), I know what you're talking about. However, the remake is what brought the team together, and will be used as a spring-board to make other games. The same thing has happened with AGDI and IA - they started with remakes, and are now producing original games. The advantages of starting with remakes is twofold:

1. It sets a standard for the team to attain. Several game development groups have made games, but most of them fall short of the quality of the KQ remakes and the other games produced by those teams. The people who played the original expect good gameplay and better graphics, etc., so the team has to live up to those expectations. Once a group has made a remake, that team's audience expects that quality of game - or better.

2. It creates a fan base ready to except new games. After people have played the remakes (games they know will be good to play), they know that the team is capable of producing quality work, and will support the team throughout the production of new games, giving them the emotional motivation to finish. That is one of the reasons Phoenix Online is still dedicated to finish TSL - the fans supply the motivation behind it, even when the team members don't have any themselves.

Our team has already tossed around producing other games (original creations) after we finish KQIV. We don't promise anything past KQIV, but it is a distinct possibility.
All that is gold does not glitter
Not all who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not touched by the frost

From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king

King's Quest II VGA was basically a new game, so much was changed from the original, IMO for the better.
