Does anyone know/remember if, on the arms of Daventry, the lion and unicorn rampant are charges or supporters? I thought the latter, but I could be incorrect and I merely wished to be certain before bringing this up on another forum.

A crest has been made to the effect of a lion and unicorn rampant (facing away from another but not regardant) per pail, with the uppermost pail carrying the letter 'D'. I realise that I shall likely not find much help here, but does anyone know if letters in crests are even legal (beyond mottoes)?

Thanks. The one of which I spoke is almost exactly like that. A unicorn proper is debatable anyway and I was wondering about that as well.

EDIT: Also, if I may ask, as both lower pails are vert, why did you not just take the pile?

You picked the party per pall as a means to divide the field (first pic). As heraldry doesn't distinguish between shades of green, the middle division line isn't really needed, so I was wondering why you didn't pick a per chevron inverted (which would resemble the pile of the ordinaries).

So, I asked why you picked a field with three divisions when only one was needed.

I think it is also pretty safe to say that it was made without the slightest reference to or interest in the medieval rules of heraldry to which Deloria is referring.

Although it is quite interesting, the kings quest series has never been fully abiding of laws and structures of medieval times...

I always assumed it was based on the King's Quest 5 & 6 opening screen. As you can see below, it has the lion and the unicorn, plus the letters K & Q (BTW - This is the first time I noticed that's a 'Q' there! weird...) which are substituted with 'D' for Daventry in the TSL crest.

As long as we're discussing crests, the second pic is this old Daventry crest sketch I found while looking for the other pic. It doesn't appear to be on the media gallery, though.
