Hey all,

I've lurked at this forum for a couple years now, popping up once in a blue moon to post, but I post regularly on some of what one might call this board's "sister boards" like agdinteractive.com, etc. (the Sierra fangame forums.)  Anyway, for the past month or two I've been playing around with AGI drawing tools (AGI = games like KQ1, 2, & 3; SQ1 &2, etc.) and it's become a bit of a project of mine to redo classic Sierra VGA screens in the old low-res, 16 color style of the AGI games.  Even more recently, I've started just making screens in this style from scratch, not copying any Sierra game, for fun.  I'm no programmer, so you won't see these in any fan game any time soon, but I thought people around here might be interested, seeing as how fun things to pass the time waiting for fangame releases can be hard to come by.  Hope you guys enjoy these.  :)

In case it isn't immediately obvious, the first three images are from Quest For Glory IV, the fourth is from Space Quest IV, the fifth is from King's Quest VI, and the last is a film still from Fellowship of the Ring.

EDIT: Looks like the resolution of these screens doesn't quite transfer in the imbedded images, so I've removed them and re-posted them as attachments so you can view them full-size.

The second and last ones are definitely my favourites. You've done a great job with them all.

Awesome! How did you do those?  8)

Hey all, thanks for the kind words!

There's a nifty little program called WinAGI that you can google and download that is basically a program for creating AGI games.  Anyway, the program contains picture and sound editing tools that allow you to create images and presumably music and sounds in the same style as the retro Sierra games.  In the picture program, you can mount background images to trace over if you like (which is what I did with these) or you can make them from scratch.  Of course, with only 16 colors at your disposal, tracing over an original image is barely half the challenge.  The rest is about making the right color choices for the right spots in an image; some colors look utterly garrish next to each other, while others create the optical illusion of blending or even changing hues.  Isn't color theory grand?   ;)

Glad you guys are enjoying them!  I'll probably post more when I get around to doing them; I've been super busy with the end of my semester here, but in a week or so I'll be having some free time, so I may try my hand at another.  :)

Those are absolutely wonderful! I can't wait to see more! And, I love how the thumbnails look just like what we remember...and then when you open them up, you can see that it's AGI. :)
