Other than Tolkien I read no fantasy either. And I didn't like Atlas Shrugged much, despite a relatively libertarian ideology. Currently I am reading a Church history book by Schaffer.

Yeah... I know I'm supposed to be identifying with the protagonists... but there really does seem to be some utter lack of empathy with them... and then the sort of everyone else category is worse. They're both extremes that I think I'd rather not explore or endorse personally.

Sorry to hear that, Shades. My sister's favorite author, Robert Jordan, died recently. Her other favorite is Anne McCaffrey....It's really about time I read some of their books myself.  XD

He died too? I think he was at Dragon Con the other year too. (Or was that the year before?)  I've never read his books. Someday maybe.

I never got into that series other than the Harper Hall trilogy (which I loved). I started Dragonflight and never finished it, but that was a long time ago, when I was in middle school. I should try reading those again.

Life of Pi is also not my fav book. I thought it wasn't really interesting before he got on the boat. In the meanwhile, I read
Donna Tartt - The little friend
George Orwell - 1984
Aldous Huxley - Brave new world
Philip K. Dick - Paycheck and 11 other short stories
and I started
Stephen Hawking - A brief history of time

I bought some more books, which I will read later:
Chuck Palahniuk - Haunted
George Orwell - Animal Farm
I forgot name - Man modified (about medical modifications to the human body, from 1969 :D)
And some kind of biography and comparison between Hitler & Stalin
