QuoteMy favourite part is like ~0:45 to around 1:30.   The ending's still a bit strange though, but nice work!

Yeah hehe atm it just stops on a note as its not finished. One day I may return hehe. Oh also about the music being the last thing to be done, it helps alot when you've got the inspiration of something in front of you to see and plan a piece to...hehe not that I'd know or anything!

I'm getting really bored of this song now so I wont do any more or I'll start hating it and never go back to it. Still loet me know what you think of the drums, I'm 50/50 on them atm.

Being someone who has the hardest time laying down drum tracks and bass lines, I must say, I think your use of the drums is excellent.  You laid them down in an interesting way - it wasn't conventional nor cheesy (like my drum tracks - which is why most of the music you will ever hear from me will NOT have drums in them - except for some orchestral percussion).  Of course, the quality of the drums sounds like a cheesy Casio keyboard, but that's because of your midi instrument.  If you have a sound blaster card that supports soundfonts, I recommend downloading and installing some.  You will be amazed at the difference!

When I'm home, I'll post a few links to my favorite soundfont sites where you can download some wonderful sounds for free.

Yeah I've seen soundfonts before, I've just never been too sure how to use them! I'm using Sibelius 2.0 to compose rather than cubase or cakewalk so im not actually using a keyboard to play notes into it, its all done via the computer keyboard(that im typing on now hehe). If you know of any starter guides for how to use soundfonts or anything that's be really helpful :D

Alex -

A good soundfont site is www.hammersound.net.  They've got tons of soundfonts and they have tutorials on how to load them and how to make them.  I have no idea how to make a soundfont, I just load them.

As far as loading them is concerned, it's actually very easy if you have a SB card (one that supports soundfonts).  The software is already provided for you.   You can choose to either load a single instrument or a whole bank of instruments at once.  I'll see if I can grab some screen shots and send them your way when I have a free moment.

Soundfonts really aren't that special.. I don't know how many of you know your Sierra music, but when Sierra games began to get General MIDI soundtracks, they were composed for Roland's Sound Canvas line, which at the time (1991) was the "industry standard" for GM. Personally, I believe the Sound Canvases still give the best General MIDI (and other sets like GS), alongside Yamaha XG. Soundfonts run the same instruments (minus a few variations) at much lower quality.

On the MIDI's: I loved 'Medieval'. Adjusted reverb to 'Hall 1', came up a treat. Might record a MP3 (or OGG Vorbis as I use now) if anyone's curious.

'Arabian Kings' was ok, but needs better instrumentation. But what am I saying- at any rate, you're an amazing composer, Mikazo. Please don't stop. :)

IMO, the best music card ever for a PC was my Roland MT-32 which was a gift from my grandmother to me.  I loved this card and I still have in storage connected to my old 486 with Windows 3.1.  It played great tunes in Quest for Glory I, II, III and King's Quest IV, V, and VI.  Also, Space Quest III.  Ah!  The memories of MID -- now I will have to hook up my old pc and play my old school games again.  :>   ;-D   ;D   :D
BTW, here is some stuff to protect your PC:

Interesting info there Dew! Perhaps next time you can add it to the PC thread here :]

Spikey i think the attraction of soundfonts is the ease of use. You just download them and away you go. Plus theyre free and ANYTHING compared to GM sounds better hehe.

Sorry, I am very careful about clicking any links these days.  I have had too many bad experiences in the past.  You can cut and paste the information and use as you like.

The link just goes to another thread on the forums, Dew, don't be so absurd. :P There is a way to check links if you get really nervous, just right click and copy link address, then paste it to see what it is. No need to go to it directly. Unless you meant another link, but honestly, I don't know anyone here who has posted a dangerous link ever.

I don't see how any link/address can be dangerous... unless it uses cross-site scripting :-\
