I'm not big on medicine myself. But after spending a day dealing with the way my mouth felt after the pulling, I realized I was going to have to take something. :P

I'm lucky I didn't need to take narcotics, though. I had a different medical procedure once where I had to take some Tylenol with codeine for the pain, and it made me sick to my stomach.

I got my wisdom teeth removed about 6 years ago.  I had the choice of getting them removed for Christmas or for New Year's.  (heh, woo what choices!)  ;)

It really wasn't that painful.  They injected my gums with some needle.  It's fun cuz your upper lip goes all numb and it feels like it's not a part of your face! :D

When the drugs wore off, you just feel this constant nagging pain, but it's nothing horrible.  And if you do the ice pack stuff, rinsins, etc. it goes away the next day.  Well, for me it did at least.

As for braces, I have one impacted molar and in order to fix it they have to do some surgery and give me braces at the same time.  I might get them this summer but I've been saying that for years now, so who knows if I will or not.  My teeth are pretty messed up though. ;D

I haven't had major surgery OR dental surgery, so I never needed painkillers for that kind of things. All of my wisdom teeth came out just fine, even though my mother scared the crap out of me with horror stories about how she had to have hers pulled out  :P

As for medicines - of course drugs aren't good for you and all, but sometimes it's better to take them than suffer... it's not like you have dental surgery every day  ::)

With some of my wisdom teeth not fuly exposed, them coming out fine without having to resort to dental surgery is going to be impossible, I fear. But, fingers crossed, let's hope they never act up and so I never need them to be removed/pulled.
I have had (light) pain killers though, when some of my teeth had to be filled (and thus, first drilled). One time, I had a slight problem with that, because the effects of the pain killers didn't appear right away, I had to go back to the waiting room and let the next patient 'slide in' between. But, once that patient had gone, the effect was already wearing off again, so that wasn't exactly without any feeling either. Luckily it didn't pass my pain threshold though, so it was still OK. :-X
