Actually, in terms of destruction by the sun's advancement in its life, the earth would be "destroyed" by the expansion of the sun into a red giant. Our sun actually isn't in the correct stellar ball park so to speak to go "nova" (ie- undergo a supernova or just nova).
The really unfortunate thing is this means that the generations that come after us will miss out on the really good stuff: when the red giant sun gives off its outer shells to form a shiney planetary nebula!

...which also would kill them if they were alive to see it... but at least it would be a prettier death!

I know... I'm a physicist... I'm weird....
Oh, and I'll be skipping #7 in favor of the Linux hyperawareness patch for the already open source normal human consciousness, thank you very much... and I won't spend as much time walking into walls or being catatonic as the Windows users.
