That's only true in the original KQ2... AFAIK the remake has no dead ends, i.e. you can't advance in the game if you haven't done/taken something you'll need later on ;)

I dunno, you're probably right, but I don't remember anything stopping me from not getting the silver pin from the "?" in the haystack and advancing. If you don't get that, you lose the game at the ambush at the lake sequence. Of course, I could be wrong too. Tell me if I am.

Eh... I think it might be a little late after you step into the ambush, but you can pretty much get the needle at any stage before that  ;)

Possum doesn't appear in the woods until you have the silver needle in your inventory. So it's not a dead end.
