It's official.  Lucasarts freakin CANCELLED Sam and Max 2.  I was really looking forward to it as well, what with the original voice actors making a comeback :(

Aww that sucks. :-\

"There is currently no plan to reduce staff."
Reduce staff? Hmm what are they insinuating by that?  :S

Heh. I just saw it's been cancelled today, on a show I never-ever watch. I was like "what? cancelled? but it had that nice trailer and everything..." :-\ Not to mention I was amazed people actually know that game here  :P

Just read the release, (and now a completely unsubstantiated remark) exactly what market are they looking at? I’d buy the thing…then again I’d buy anything that remotely looks like a “classic” adventure… oh I miss good games so much (goes off and cries)

Well damn...there they go again and cancel my hopes and dreams just like Full Throttle 2...my cousin helped make the 1st Sam n Max (and FT), but of course they have to cancel it...thou shalt not put SnM2 on the market until Max has full missle launching capabilities, Sam runs wild in God Mode, and 1st person shooting is the key to survival...adventure gaming is no more another shooter from those mindless wh@res

Yonkey - I think that would insinutae that they're going to be reducing their staff.  :P No, I really think that's what it is!

Anyhow, I recommend reading this article at Just Adventure+ which mentions the cancellation along with other amusing anecdotes about corporate idiots. Click me!

My personal favorite is the one about Hannibal the game  ;B

EDIT (By Yonkey): The url was stretching the forum ;D

Well, do they mean by continuing with the Sam and Max 2 it would result in lay-offs?  The reduce part makes me think that's what they mean.

After reading the article, I'm almost guarenteed that's what they mean.  I guess they forecast that the product's return on investment wouldn't be enough to cover the $2M development costs.  Oh well, that sucks.  :-\

I think that LucasArts is wiping out the Adventure Genre :-\, they said once in an agreement that only 1 to 2 adventure games would be released each year >:(

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

That was the *one game* I was looking forward to this year!! As well as Siberia 2 and Longest Journey 2, of course.

:'(

And I thought Lucasarts had more gumption than Sierra, but now they too are going the way of Sierra. :(

Who is making adventure games right now? Mostly I've just seen the Adventure Company and a bunch of independent internet people programming freeware adventures. Doesn't seem to be many companies that even veer *near* adventures nowadays, sadly. :S

All I can say is that if adventure games aren't sold any more, it's very unlikely PC Games in general will survive. :S

Adventure games started everything on the PC, anybody remember the original one? Yep, it was called "Colossal Cave Adventure". The very first popular game on the PC was an adventure. I do not want to see the very last game that is an adventure, that would be a very sad day. :'( RPGs are fun too, though I prefer adventure games usually unless the RPGs have a very good plot. I never buy action games at all, they are a waste of time and completely mindless, and I don't like shooting stuff up. (Even if I do happen to be an expert shooter with the mouse due to long years of pixel searching. ;)) If all adventure game companies peter out or give way to action games, I say we either sue them all or make new adventure game companies. ;)

Of course PC games will survive! not every action gamer goes out and buys a console. As long as there are PCs, there will be PC games... in one form or another  :-\

I cant live without Adventure games :'(. They are completely different from RPG's, cos in RPG you have to fight lots of bad guys and in Adventures you dont XD

Still you cant just completely wipe out a game genre, can you ???

I doubt it, though sadly some things die through complacency. :( There doesn't seem to be much you can do anymore to contact companies and let them know what you feel, they just ignore anyone nowadays. :(

As for PC Games becoming just pure action or pure puzzle games, if that happens there may be more of a tendency for people to go to consoles instead because they are more likely to have adventure type games on them now. Sad but true. True action gamers will probably end up being the only people buying PC Games, and unfortunately there are a lot of them. Though even some true action gamers still like good ol adventure games. Little Gamers had a comic on Lucasarts' stupidity for cancelling Sam+Max 2, which probably would have brought in tons of revenue. Lack of money my ass.

boooo! I also resent the fact Fox kids UK only shows the TV show at odd hours on random occasions o-0...

If I didn't have Broken Sword I'd be going nuts around now..

Max was in a 3D game before.

In Jedi Knight, he was an easter egg. Many people also made mods with Max in it(the 3Dmodel was there, so why not).

I'll never forget the day I was playing a mod I just downloaded, and I saw Max. In the normal game, he's harmless(he just watches TV, or something like that), in this mod, he was one of the scariest things I'd ever seen. :o

He hopped up and down, he moved too fast for me to get good shot in(Jedi Knight=3rdpersonaction/1stpersonshooter), and he had a gun that shot over 10 times faster than mine. Not to mention his extremely high health.

I guess you can all guess what happend to me.  :dead:

Except that Jedi Knight was made long before the Sam&Max sequel started being made.

Mystery's of the Sith, was just as much an adventure game, as a shooter(odd, but true).

Save Sam&Max
I just put this link here, in case someone was interested(I don't know if it's already been posted).

P.S. I didn't really care for Sam&Max, but I thought the sequel looked interesting(that, and I'd like more adventure games on the market).
