Er. Thanksgiving isn't a Catholic holiday at all, it's just an American one. Some countries have similar festivals (like Canada, IIRC), but it's not a religious thing.

Well, the traditional tale is that it was started by the Pilgrims giving thanks for surviving their first period of time here in North America. It thus might have it's roots in a Puritan festival, but it's not really a religious thing now (unless you want to bring thanks to G-d into it).

The Pilgrims were able to survive their first winter in America with an Indian's help, named Squanto. So they celebrated with the Indians and gave thanks.
If only that Indian had known what trouble he got his race into by doing that. :-X
