System:
Demo and patch version (i.e. RC1 Patch v.1.0.1): RC1 Patch v2.0
Operating system: Vista
RAM: 1GB
Video Card Manufacturer (i.e. NVidia or ATI): ATI
Video Card Model: Radeon X850

Location: N/A

Result (pick one):
- Fatal error [exited completely] Error: Unable to initialize Video Card

I know there was a post about this OpenGL error on Vista with instructions for updating your video card driver. But everyone replying to that post had NVidia cards. ATI cards have always had issues with OpenGL on Vista and I was wondering if anyone who actual uses an ATI card was able get the demo running on Vista.

Thanks.

The demo was released before Vista even existed.  Try running the game in Windows XP compatibility mode.  If you still get the same error, you'll need to update your video card drivers.

I tried the demo in Vista and ran into nothing but problems... ranging from your paticular error all the way to random lockups/freezes and Fatal Execution errors.

I believe the culprit here isn't the ATI card (I use an ATI Radeon 3850 now... far cry from the old days of a Radeon 7500)... but more likely Vista.

Like Yonkey said though... the demo came out well before Vista, so the demo and Vista are definitely not going to play nice together.  It goes without saying that the finalized game will not have any issues running under Vista... but that's a topic for another thread.

For now try running the demo in Windows XP compatibility mode and keep your fingers crossed.  :)
