Confusion about the future of the game.

Hiya all.
Iv been lurking for a while, as many people have, and im a little confused.

As I understand it, the game was originally going to be a trilogy, which, in total, was 9 chapters.
However, due to various reasons, only 2 of the 9 original chapters will be released.

Now, presuming that the whole storyline and the entire script for all 9 chapters would have been written before coding started, will we have an ending for the game?
I'm not very good at phrasing things; are the storylines being modified so that it will function as a complete game at time of release, or will the team be releasing the script and/or storyboards after the game is released, so that people who have played through the game will be able to read the rest of the storyline?

I'm sure im not the only one who has been confused by this; I'm worried that i'l play this game once it's released, then get to the end of chapter 2 and be left at a complete never-to-be-resolved cliffhanger.

Still, I'm sure that the team has taken that into consideration. I get the impression that they will have figured all this out already.

To the team; you truly are brilliant people. Not many would put all this time and effort in for free.

Hey there,

I'm not a member of the team but i can tell you this:  the team never said that we were guaranteed to NOT get the remaining chapters, they only said that there was no guarantee we would get them.  So, in effect, the future of TSL is uncertain at the moment as far as I know.  I imagine, as a result, that they would leave the first two chapters on a cliffhanger.  After all, they wouldn't want to complete the story at that stage if there was a chance we would get the rest of the games.  If we don't get the games, they will probably find another medium through which to complete the rest of the story as you have said.

On a brighter note, i'm sure the fans don't want TSL to end here.  So, we will collectively find a way to get the rest of the games out there.  As fans we are very persistent and will find some away around this debacle but I don't doubt that the team will devise some ingenious solution to see the chapters complete anyway.

As I understand it, for the most part, the plot for the first two chapters is unchanged. However, there is a small part that has been added to the end to resolve any loose ends. This addition will not give away the plot from the rest of the chapters (too much).

The rest of the plot for chapter 3 MAY be released in some form, but the plot for chapters 4-9 is likely going to be left entirely unknown, unless Vivendi and the team can reach some sort of agreement involving the TSL team getting paid for it. :P

I thought there were Only 3 Chapters, where did this 9 come from and what are the Chapter Names again  ???

So what you guys are saying is, we will get Quart of the Game and thats for TSL.  ???

When can we expect the Full Game already, is TSL Dead and the Team are just playing around with us for Another Year.  ???

koko_99_2001

There are 9 chapters, which were planned to be released in 3 parts.

TSL is not dead. As an official beta tester, some amazing work is getting done. I seriously doubt that the team is "just playing around with us for another year."

When can we have aNew Update or a New Screen or a New Demo ora New Trailer, does this mean we will get TSL by the End of December.

koko_99_2001

I don't believe I said that it'll be given to the fans by the end of December. I don't know when it will be put out there for you guys. What I do know is that the team has hit some MAJOR milestones over the last few weeks.

The future of TSL is a pretty big unknown.  It will entirely depend on how well received the first two chapters are.  One thing we know for certain is that the remaining chapters won't be developed by us for free.

We can't say for certain when the game will be released yet, since there's still more work to be done, but as Cat said, we have hit some major milestones these past few weeks that we thought we'd never hit.  All we can do now is keep pushing forward! ;D

Thanks to you all for your help in clearing that up for me.
From playing the demo I know that whenever it get released, no matter how much of the original storyline has been integrated, it will be a hit.
Really looking forward to it guys, keep up the good work.

I know that most of that information is top secret, but would you mind sharing a few of these "milestones" with us?  It gets us so excited to hear the accomplishments--big or small--within the development team!  Any tiny piece of information--whether you programmed the correct animation for the movement of Graham's hand or changed a plot element--is exciting!

Unfortunately, I can't get into any specifics right now.  All I can say is that there are some major milestones we need to hit prior to release, and the first of which was completed 2 weeks ago. :)

Congrats!  But thanks anyway.  It's not just that I'm impatient ( ;D), I just love to hear what you guys are up to.  It's exciting and makes it more real to me.

Can you tell us how many such milestones there are? If we make no assumption of the size of said milestones or of the difficulty of completing them, that doesn't give us a time limit or release date, but it does give you a way to communicate progress in terms of the milestones... it also opens the doors for rampant speculation on said size and difficulty... which I'm told is the bread and butter of internet forum discussions. :P

Interesting... 8)

There are 2 more of a similar nature, 2 more which are non-development related, and 2 more which need to be done post-release. :P

Hmm, "non development related."  We can only speculate as to what that might mean...any ideas, anyone?  ;D

hey guys & girls,
I'm waiting with my kids for the release of this game since....I don't remember when...I promise myself not to register and complain as, after all, this is a pure product of your kindness but...well...we're getting really impatient over here and these stories of release dates and milestones are getting esoteric (is it a part of the Quest to come ?  ;) )
So well, what to say ? good luck. We hope it will come soon

It's funny to me how upset people are getting over the "projected release time" and the changing dates.  I know we've been waiting a long time, but seriously, how much of most of your everyday lives are dedicated to obsessing over TSL?  (I'm excluding the beta testers and the programmers, of course.  You guys have an excuse.  :))  I mean, it's important to me and I'm fully supportive of the creators and so appreciate their work, but honestly, I don't think about TSL every minute of every hour of every day.

When I sign on and post, then look at the screenshots and other media files, I get really excited and anxious for it to come out.  Other than that, though, I don't really give it too much more thought.  Sure, it crosses my mind every now and then throughout the day, but regarding its release date and development...come on guys, be patient.

If I'm correct, most of you probably also only feel yourselves getting frustrated about the ever-changing dates during a small part of the day, so calm down.  It's not worth being so pessimistic and angsty over.  The game will come out when it comes out, and it will have been worth the wait.  If it takes another year, so be it.  Let's quit speculating and have confidence in the team we all believe so much in. <3

Well, if I had to guess i'd say that we're probably going to get an update around Christmas time.  If the team does indeed hit its milestones by the end of the year, the game should be just about ready to be submitted to Vivendi.  I seriously doubt it'll take another year for all of this unless the team decides that they would like to add on more content.  This is nothing but a guess but I think it'll be ready or near ready by year's end.

fred

Hum... ! well, there is some truth in that. I guess having the release date being reported regularly is just sustaining the wait for it to a higher level than it should be. From my part I check this site many times. It has became a family tradition to play King Quests games and as we completed all the other quests, we're getting "thirsty". However we're hopefully not obsessive gamers ! Just getting irritated, I confess. I also confess it's not legitimate. And I hopefully have a lot of other reasons to be irritated ! That's a choice in fact : we don't spend a lot of times playing on the computer, I try not to let my kids play alone. We play together for a limited piece of time, it's more convivial. We only play good games with less violence as possible, we only play freeware as we usually don't want to spend money on that, we don't download pirated games as it's illegal. So here is the price to pay...worth it, no doubt at all about that... :D

One thing more :
I've been a Java/J2EE and web developer. I have no work right now and plenty of time so if I can be of any use for beta testing or programming, I would enjoy.

liggy002

Well, thats the beautiful thing about this game  ;D  It originally was pirated but was given a green light by Vivendi soon after.  So, in essence, we are getting a beautiful piece of free loot in this game.  It's like steaing gold out of a leprechaun's pot and then he lets you have it after.

A free King's Quest Game?  YES PLEASE!  ;D
