I'm making this thread for anyone who doesn't know what Sarien.net is. It's a website where you can play classic sierra adventure games online, for free. With an added bonus: Online multiplayer. It's worth a look, and the guy developing it is working on quite a few new features for it later this month. Right now it only supports EGA games, but he is working on putting SCI games on it in the future. He plans on adding user accounts, multiplayer achievements, and more. He's working on bug fixes for all the games too. This thread is intended for discussion of everything Sarien.net related...

It's more than cool; it's amazing! If you follow the developer on Twitter, you can find out what he's planning for future updates. He plans on adding KQ4 eventually, and he's mentioned sound support a few times. It's really a cool website. In addition to it being extremely useful, it also showcases what the internet is truly capable of these days.

I've never heard of that site. The developer of Sarien.net mentioned somewhere that he worked on some chatroom type thing for adventure games previously, and that that inspired him to make sarien.net. I don't know much about that, but it's possible that Good Old Adventures is one and the same.

I bet he did work on GOA before. :P
It was a lot like Sarien, but it was basically just a chatroom where you could play as Sierra characters and hang out in the locations, without much real adventuring. It was fun though, driving around the PQ streets..hanging around jail..running from aliens in speedos... :P

I wonder if he'd be willing to make some sort of "Free Play" mode, where you can just hang out anywhere and have a complete choice of characters like in GOA :P

That's exactly what it was! He mentioned all that stuff on the site. It's not around anymore, is it? It would be cool to have a free play mode, but I must admit I've had some rather interesting experiences on multiplayer. You can change your avatar and everything, and it was pretty weird what some people managed to come up with. One person changed their avatar to Larry in LSL after he had sex with the prostitute and got an STD, and just went around yelling "I'M GLOWING!!!!!! I'M GLOWING!!!!!!!!!!". When your playing in multiplayer, whatever you type in the text parser can be viewed by all, so it's really kind of like chat. I personally prefer to play offline most of the time, but it's still a pretty cool site.

it may be a little nuts, but it's pretty cool. just the technology behind it is astounding. to think that when the king's quest games first came out back in the 80's, none of it would ever have been possible. now we can enjoy the classics of old online, without downloading or installing a thing, with the added bonus of multiplayer and a form of chat, which gives them an incentive to be played. the site is currently still being updated, with king's quest 4 eventually getting added, and beyond. I believe the site will be around for a while, and it's quite an experience. And yes, that LSL post was funny, but it's only the beginning. there are quite a few experiences to be had over there. for example, because of some bugs in Gold Rush, i was literally walking on water. I was exclaiming to my friend "I'M WALKING ON WATER!!!! I'M WALKING ON WATER!!!!!!". I'm kind of hoping that particular bug never gets fixed... perhaps they should be left on with the bugs intact, to add some comedy into the games...

Speaking of bookmarks, you can add save games as bookmarks, which is a very unique way to do save games. It's definitely a site to keep your eyes on for the future. I can see it becoming quite popular...

Is it a bug, or when playing gold rush is there an issue.
You state you can save your game by creating bookmarks, but how does it save your inventory??? it just saves the screen you are on.
I also cannot view my inventory to see how much $ I have, etc.. etc.. etc...
I tried what they reccomended with the / and then going over to inventory, but nothing happens.  like this in all games?

The site is still in it's infancy, so I imagine that all of those issues are known and are being worked on. You can always e-mail or twitter the developer. He usually gives prompt responses to my inquiries. In order to save your game, you have to type in save, and then follow the onscreen prompts, which basically say to just bookmark. That's how the saving feature works. I believe it is supposed to save your inventory and all that jazz. I have experienced some errors with save states, so there are definitely bugs in the system, but I'm sure they'll eventually get fixed.

Here's some updates for everyone: Martin Kool, the guy developing sarien.net, updated his blog with information on forthcoming sarien.net updates. In particular, he announced Ways-To-Go, a unique acievement system that gives you achievements for finding different ways to die. I must admit, I am intrigued. He also announced (and previewed) a new site design that really looks amazing. All of this is slated to appear in either February or March. He also talked about user accounts, which, when registered, will allow you to choose an avatar to play with in games. For example, you could play as king graham in leisure suit larry (I can only begin to imagine the different scenarios and conversations people will come up with...). With user accounts, you can also have your saved games appear in your profile, and you can even share them on facebook and twitter. For more information, visit his blog.

:( the links... they do nothing

I found out what the problem was... I put in quotation marks in the links, which apparently voided them.... It's fixed now. At least on my computer. I haven't much experience with coding, so I clearly have some more studying to do lol... And to think that I'm going to college for web design next year... I really am going to need to brush up on my code...
