Maybe Something to Add to the Forums?

I know the fan fiction section of the forums seems to have pretty much died, but I also know we have some talented writers here so I was thinking....

Maybe we could start doing some RPing on the forums, set in the KQ universe? I don't know if anyone else here would be interested in doing something like that, but I think forum RPs can be tons of fun and I know we all love the KQ universe, so why not?

Hmmm, I'm definitely all for the idea. RPing sounds fun, though I'm not entirely sure how it'd play out. I'm all for it! :P

Well you don't wanna know exactly how it'll play out, that spoils the fun! :P

I think we'd have to hold auditions, perhaps, for the various main characters (except Connor cause I feel like nobody would want to play him or it would just be like one person :P) or just agree that nobody's gonna play them, so everybody's happy with that. We'd probably take plot suggestions and have a poll to vote on where we'd start (that usually helps to kick these things off, although after the first couple the plots tend to develop naturally on their own). Of course, we'd have to have a thread for people to create characters in as well.

I think it'd be lots of fun. It'd be like a collaborative fanfic! :D

I'd love a Connor to be there if he were akin to Kenny from South Park fame.  Ending up with something like:

I'd love that too, believe me, but I feel like if we had someone playing Connor they might object and want us to bring him back to life. Ugh. :P

Anyone else game for this?

Well, they can bring him back to life...  But then he has to die again on something comedic.  I'd totally play Connor just to watch him die on a blade of grass or something.

*is considering it*

who would we play? random people from the various lands in the series?

*might play some sort of random Daventry peasant who is hopefully cooler than Connor... we can only hope*

Count me in too! I've never really done a forum role play before, so you'll have to teach me. It certainly sounds like fun though. I think it could really add some life to the forum. I think that once this gets started, there should be a board dedicated to the official TSL KQ RP. How do we begin?

Oh, BTW, I call Alexander. Or some really heroic prince from another kingdom...

Technically, Roger Wilco can be considered a character in KQ because in SQ2 there was a death sequence where Roger actually crash lands in daventry...

Dude, Jafar, if you *actually* want to play Roger Wilco, we totally should do it like that death scene -- he crashlanded in Daventry, but instead of dying he was found by someone from Daventry and healed -- unfortunately, no one but he has any idea how to repair his ship. Tadah -- a subplot! :P

Delling, we'd have the option of playing madeup characters -- like peasants who are cooler than Connor (really, I think that's just a given :P) and we could also play characters from the games.

D-D, I think that we should ask for a subboard of the fanfiction section for the Official TSL KQ RP. Or a subboard of the Adventure Gaming section where we're talking about. It's not much to teach, it's really just writing a story except you can only write what your one (or however many you're playing) characters does or sees.
To start, we should make a couple preliminary decisions before we make solid decisions which characters we want to play or making characters up. That, of course, is the canon/fanon debate. I'll ask those questions now, while we're all talking about, so we can get that out of the way. :D (I'm gonna give my opinions, but don't just agree with me cause I said it :P this should be a majority rules kind of thing so that everyone has as much fun as possible!)

1) When do we want to play it? Do we want to play it between some of the games or after all of them (but before TSL since we don't know what's going to happen in it?) or how do we want to do it?
My personal opinion? I'd like to do one after 7 but before MoE. Even if we have someone playing Connor, it could explain how the heck a simple peasant knew how to fight so well that he could behead a swamp witch.

2) Canon/Fanon? I'm assuming we're using the TSL timeline because, well, it's easy reference since we'll all be on this site when we post but if anyone has any objections to that, say so no or forever hold your peace. :P
The other question -- and perhaps a bigger question -- is whether or not we want to use the KQ2+ storyline or use the original KQ2 storyline? We'll need to know, because the whole "getting cursed" thing will probably be a big deal to Graham and Valanice even however many years later. Plus, that will determine what Kolyma is like, if someone wants to play the monk or something we'll have to figure that out, or if someone wants to play Caldaur we'd have to figure that out if we go with the original version.
Personally, I like KQ2+ better than the original because I felt that plot was choppier than any of the other games -- even KQ1 -- and was really seriously noticeably lacking in the sort of "epic scale" these sorts of adventures ought to have. On the other hand, I know some people really don't care for KQ2+'s changes (*coughbagginscough* :P) because of how much it strayed from canon.

3) Borrowing! We've already discussed Roger Wilco and since there's that death scene that seems pretty legitimate -- but are there other games/books/etc people want to borrow from and how would you guys like to deal with that if there are?
My vote is the simple explanation -- the KQ Companion says the World of Daventry is part of a multiverse. We'll just say anything else is another world in the multiverse and somehow they ended up in Daventry instead of in their own world. Otherwise we'll have to start being like "unexplored parts of the world" blah blah blah, and I've seen some other RPGs do that and in my opinion it just never works out right. Or it does and you just end up with a planet that is simply gargantuan to an extreme. Either way, it's not my favorite. :P

I prefer the KQ2+ timeline, as I believe it adds so much more depth to the overall KQ plot, and it helps to connect MoE to the series. I'm fine with any point in the KQ series really. There is a lot of story potential in the 20 year gap between 2 and 3, and the events in-between 7 and MoE could provide some good plot too. Or, we could say this for MoE: The entire game took place in a separate universe from the established KQ universe. When in doubt, use the alternate reality excuse/explanation. It fixes every possible plot hole...

I could theoretically play as any adventure game character I wanted, couldn't I? I think I'll stick to Alexander for now...

Exactly my feeling as well.

The only reason I didn't suggest doing something between 2 and 3 is that there's a number of characters we couldn't really use -- Alexander, for instance, is unquestionably unplayable as what would he be able to do as a slave to Mananan? Likewise, really important characters from later in the games -- Edgar, Cassima, Cedric, Crispin -- are unusable simply because they're not people the royal family are likely to forget about meeting when they run into them later. Setting things later in the series gives us more options as far as who we can play as.
Still, if no one wants to play those characters or can come up with ways to use them appropriately given that time frame, I don't have a problem with it. Heck, there's also lots of story potential between 4 and 5 and (if you take the remake of KQ3 as opposed to the real KQ3) between 3 and 4. We could really choose any time at all.

I hadn't even thought of that. That is another way to spin it!

Theoretically, we could figure out some way to work them in. Heck, theoretically why stick to adventure games, or why even stick to games at all? We have as broad or as narrow a spectrum as we'd like to work with, really.

Sweet. I could play as Spider-man... But I think Alexander is fine for the moment.

I think that we should just stick to in-between 7 and MoE. It offers us the broadest freedom to weave a story. If we did any other time line we'd have to come up with some ridiculous story about how the whole royal family's memory has been altered so that they wouldn't know they were really aliens...
