I'm not afraid of lawyer's either, but I am afraid of an empty purse at the end of the week because I am busy paying for a lawyer. I hate gray area. I am a logical person, watched to much of Mr. Spock growing up, and I like my things to be either right or wrong. If it needs to come down to donations, I would rather it be to purchasing the IP and not to a court battle that I could potentially lose. And thanks for saying I didn't lose my composure.

Hmm, sorry I missed that.  There was 30 pages, I scanned looking for that kind of information skipping the consistent "I'm so sad, etc." posts.  And waltzdancing, I have been in situations dealing with lawsuits.  My company pushes the "grey area" all the time.  We just aren't scared of lawyers.  Do what everyone else does.  Accept donations, add advertisements, charge for the game, etc.  And I was expecting a piece of your mind, you didn't loose composure at all

It's easy to make a promise like that... but I sincerely doubt you have the foggiest idea of what you are talking about.  You say you work for a company that is always "pushing the grey area"... well the key phrase here is you WORK.  That means you probably get paid.  Ergo the risk of pushing the grey area is balanced by the money you make.

The TSL team did this game for FREE.  They haven't made any money on it and they have everything to loose by risking a lawsuit.  Oh sure you would get the game... everyone would get the game.  And the TSL development team would spend the next couple of years in a legal battle with Activision.  They get to pour lots of money into legal fees and whatnot... while you get your game.

Why does that sound very one-sided?

We will see the game even if the team has to rework it. Everyone here will know what it is and who is who. I have been waiting since 1998 for another kings quest game and a the waiting hasn't killed me yet or any other fan, it has made our mouth water.

Which, one again, is incredibly selfish.  Are you depriving all of us other King's Quest fans the hope of seeing more?

I "work" for a company that I own.  I know far more about lawsuits and contention than you could imagine.  And if you read my post I explained ways to offset costs.  There is a huge fanbase here, they could easily monetize that.  Also, if they gave me all rights and ownership for TSL then whatever I did with it would land on me, not them.  And I would get away with it, so it wouldn't be one sided in the slightest.  I think you skipped over my posts.

Exactly.  All this talk of leaking the game and playing what-if scenarios is self-serving and... more importantly:  selfish and redundant.  The team has already said that if all else failed, they would rework the game to remove all KQ elements and release the game that way (it's mentioned in one or two of the post C&D interviews).

No, because I could carealess to play the game without any way of restoring the KQ elements.  I'm not being selfish, you didn't even read my post, or understand it apparently.  I said I'd rather have the latter rather than no game at all.  I'll break it down for you, since the game will never be allowed to be released, ever, leaking it will at least let us play the one game.  But.. since it will never be released, there will never be a sequel.  So there is no selfishness in that.  Let me know if I need to clarify further.

I think Activision is a bit bigger than your company and could still milk you for all you are worth if you tried it. They have proved to be a big old nasty shark in the calm waters and that shark is going to eat everything it sees.

It's kind of hard to say I skipped over your posts when I'm directly quoting your posts.  And, for the sake of conversation... let's hear you out here.  What would you do to avoid the inevitable lawsuit that came from breaching the C&D?  Give me specifics since you know more about lawsuits and contention than I could imagine.  Give me specifics of what legal defense you would raise to justify your breaching the C&D.

If you can't give specifics... then I stand by my assessment that what you want is exceedingly selfish and aimed towards nothing more than self-gratification.

Want to know something?  The King's Quest series has given me a lot of hope over the years so I will hope as much as I want, particularly when it comes to seeing a new King's Quest game!

It wouldn't be self-gratification.  Why do you assume I'm only thinking of me and being selfish?  It would be for all of the fans and especially for the creators!  They would get to see their game in the hands of thousands of fans.  I don't understand why you assume I'm the evil one here.  Also, it would never get to court, I have ways and know people in many countries.  If activision wants to try and sue the netherlands then let them try and fail miserably.

International copyright law is one of the jurisdictions of INTERPOL... hence why someone in Australlia who uploads a copy of Super Mario Bros Wii ends up with a 1.5 million dollar damages judgement against him (also mentioned in the C&D thread with links I might add).

I find your arrogance some what distasteful, Activision would take it all from you and if they didn't in a court of law, I would love to hear how you would defend yourself. Activision owns the rights and according to the law, they have everyright to shut down a project, no matter what if it hints at their IP. If you want to help see this game, talk to your lawyers on Monday and have them contact TSL if they think they could win.
