Are you out of high school yet? Because I used to think all that too...

I did finished my highschool and I'm almost finished with college... but I guess I'm a bit of an exception (hahaha.... we are all unique ; )  ...cuz i'm pretty intelligent (or so 'they' say)

don't get me wrong, I would never recommend dropping out of school to anyone... but I do think that what I've learned the past few years was a total waste of my time ; ) hahaha.... not what I learned though, cuz I don't consider that a waste but the way I learned I regret, because I wonder what I could have done with all the time I had to go to school.

but once again everyone is different and I know almost all my fellow students would disagree with mee (xcept for a few)

Yay not too bad! Got a C in English Lit. and a C in Politics which was 2 marks off a B. Its actually quite good considering the amount of people who got E's and U's! For those who don't know how the (stupid) A'level system works in the UK heres a quick summary.

 You choose 3-5 AS subjects in year 12 (the first year after you've done your GCSE's) and then depending on what the exam boards decide you take a module of the course in the winter and get your grades back march. This grade is based on points which then gets translated into a Letter grade (A,B,C,D,E and U). Then you take the other modules of the course in summer and get the results in about August. The points are added together to form your final grade and then you can carry on all your subjects you took or drop one or two. In the second year you basically study aspects of the course in more detail at a higher level (called A2 level) and then you take exams in the winter again (the ones I've just done) and ones in the summer. You then add these points to the points from the previous year to get your final grade. Atm I could not do anymore exams and leave with an E in Politics and English but music I'd fail. If i left them as AS levels I'd have two C's and an E (eek music sucks )

You can say that again! I’ll second (or I guess third) everybody in lending my voice to the “Don’t worry, you kick arse Say” sentiment.

School stuff is hard, but I have loads of friends who just got out who all want to get back in… go figure… I guess it’s some sort of a bad habit.

As usual Say is right, there’s lots of great stuff to look forward or so I’m told… Just kidding, I’m two years liberated from college and loving it!

that's not a problem in fact, its quite awesome, my degree is a 5 year one, I almost do it in 4 (due to some political stuff blah blah blah the college had to shut down for like a month) I couldnt do it because of some other factors, AND I got a degree sided in english (a language academy) as well as other extra curricular activities (got an award for an ilustration contest) I've had 3 years experience, so if you WANT to do it you certainly WILL do it, but my point, regardless of what the time frame is and all the obligations you may have, you CAN get into it in order to do as good as you can and move on with it (which is the important, besides time) I never had a long vacation, I never had time between semesters (I always picked them up right away) so right now it shows, good grades, teachers offer me real jobs lol, even the dean loves me and I got privilegues to move ahead one whole semester do to thesis, cant complain

So dont feel bad you keep adding things, in fact it is quite good hence you are preparing yourself more and better

Unfortunately, I'd have to drop out of school completely though since the job is in the US.  I might eventually do some other courses there, but I wouldn't be able to continue my current degree since both the program and the degree isn't offered.

Heh. Dude, with the screwy way things are going around these parts, you're better off staying in Canada. But if you do decide to come, tell me where you're moving to.

Out of curiousity, I forgot to ask... why would your school make you withdraw for a year just for failing a class? Seems rather silly.

There's a Faculty policy that says you can't fail a compulsory subject twice, or you're forced to withdraw.  I checked with the Faculty too to see if it was true and they confirmed it.

Ugh, that sucks. Makes no sense whatsoever to me, though. Once you get out of the "swing" of things for a year, it'll be even *harder* to pass those classes, so why would they do that, if they want you to pass? Oh, well, I should be used to things not making sense to me.

I myself have to give in a "project" I've been working on soon... nothing life-altering, but failing would mean I'll need to take 2 more semesters instead of just one to get my degree
However, I was assured I'd get a passing grade if I give it in on time. That kinda makes me wonder - was the part of the work I already submitted SO wonderful that they're sure I'll pass?? Nah, it probably means I'm so horrible they'll just give me the grade to get rid of me

I don't know how things are in Canada, but if you were in my country, I'd tell you to grab that job with both hands. Learning on the job is much more valuable than what you learn in school. Studying is the easy part - you can always complete your degree later. Getting a good job without previous experience, even with a degree, is hard (in my experience at least)  
Of course, if you were in MY country, you'd want to re-locate to the US for obvious reasons

I'm sure you'll do fine, Storm!  I've never been assured a passing grade for anything school related, so they must love what you sent so far and know that it'll just get better.  

Thanks for the support as well. I forgot to mention another annoying policy the school has is that you must complete the degree within 8 years from the time of admission.  This September will make it 3 years and I know it would take at least 1.5 year to complete, so that means I really only have 3.5 years before I lose the degree.

Neil, my two cents if you’ll have it. Though the jobs sounds sexy, at least in the US a degree starts you on a whole different level in terms of $$$ and potential for advancement. My first job, I started “supervising” people who’d being doing the job 10 years but who had no BA, in truth they supervised me but I got the cash, almost doesn’t seem fair does it.  

I don’t know think long and hard about this one, I hope you’ve got time to consider it. Good luck!

Me, I'm doing okay, but I keep having one or two classes every semester that give me big troubles. Mostly cuz I'm too stressed to do the stuff.

Say, I know all of this is interesting to you, but it seriously goes over my head.  But I am impressed with anyone who understands the stuff!  

I have to admit, I'm more interested in cochlear implants, hearing loss, types of hearing loss, ways to fix them, signing, and then speech therapy for children.  (Can you tell that my major is speech therapy???  lol).  I'm really wanting to be an interpreter for the deaf, so don't know if I'll just go get my signing certificate after I graduate with my double major, or if I should go to grad school and specialize in Deaf Education...decisions, decisions...but I've got probably three years to decide!

They at least need to cover hearing aids in insurance policies, it hurtz the wallet when they cost like $1000-$2000 apiece nowadays.

Hey Oldbushie!  I have a few questions for you, just b/c I'm interested in the stuff...PM me if you don't want to post it...but what type of HL do you have, what caused it, what is the severity of it...oh yeah, and what type of hearing aids do you use?

We have a girl in our major with a hearing loss and she talks about having to get ear molds every about 6 months.  It's really interesting because we learn this stuff in class and then she gets to give us how it affects her.

Now, about me coming up with some cheap ones..don't know if I can  .  I'm a long way from being able to do anything like that!  I will admit, though, that I didn't know that insurance didn't cover hearing aids...however, I know that they will cover the majority of cochlear implants (but with those we're talking about 50,000-60,000 each!)

Anyway, thanks ahead of time for being so open!
