To the TSL Team,

Thanks for negotiating on behalf of the fans and making this project a reality.  Will the remaining chapters be released?

Thanks.

Lazarus

I would like to know as well :)

As I said in a different thread, the story has been condensed and the most important points of the story have been brought over to episodes 1-5. You will get a full story by the time we are done with what we have in plan. We are now able to tell a full story as opposed to before, where it wasn't feasible to create the rest of the episodes within the same structure.

And that's all we are saying for now ;)

So, I'm slightly confused now.  Are you still only publishing Chapters 1 and 2 (Out of the 9 you had planned) or are you doing more then that now?  If this was already explained in another thread I'd appreciate a nudge in the direction.

Enchantermon

As I understand it, Chapters 1 and 2 are the only ones being released. They will be altered to bring a conclusion to the story and released in 5 episodic installments. So it's pretty much the same thing, but changed a little to bring closure to the series.

Close Enchanter...

Chapters 1-9 have been condensed into 5 episodes.  You all will be getting an entire story... complete with a beginning, middle, and end.  The Silver Lining is not being released as chapters, but instead by episodes.  So instead of 9 chapters, you will be getting 5 episodes.  :)

But isn't it mostly the plot of Chapters 1 and 2? I thought pretty much the rest of it was left out, and all that was done was just adding a conclusion to those chapters' plot.

The storyline of TSL as it currently stands is a condensed version of the original 9 chapter storyline.  What you and Enchanter are thinking of was the original release plan for when TSL was 9 chapters and it was concluded that chapters 3-9 would not be able to be made due to the amount of work that would have been involved in bringing 7 chapters to completion (which resulted in the decision to break TSL up into three parts, and release the first part, which was called Shadows and was comprised of Chapters 1 and 2... leaving the other 2 parts to development limbo).

Under the episodic formula, the development team was able to take the original 9 chapters and condense it down into 5 episodes.  So like I said, you all will be getting a completed story... which would not have been possible under the original 9 chapter/3 part release schedule.

You're both right, actually. :)

The storyline was condensed, but what's there is mostly what comprised of Chapters 1 and 2. Large pieces were cut entirely, but we kept what we needed of the original story to make the game complete and satisfactory and the story we wanted to tell. So, large pieces were also added to the material we are releasing in order to do that.

So, all in all, the entire game will be as long as King's Quest 6?

Baggins

Sounds almost like the situation for KQ7 and KQ8, they had to cut things to release a 'finished' product in time, and tell a "complete story", but they weren't necessarily the complete package they wanted to originally tell.

Only difference, you have had alot more time to polish things.
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. We did have the advantage of not having a money-driven production schedule. Which had both pros and cons to it. :)

But, we have tried hard to make sure that things are explained where they need to be explained, and not left hanging in an unsatisfactory way.

I am curious, I haven't heard about stuff being cut out from KQ7 before--what was? Other than a few lines, I know, by Graham, but plotwise?

Well, Graham's portion in the game was completely cut. All the had finished for it was a single line. No one knows how much longer it would have been. The KQ7 novel might hint at some aspects of it, since its told from the perspective of the Valanice and Rosella discussing their adventure with Graham. The ending as a whole was probably going to be more elaborate.

There would have been alot more on Malicia's backstory, how she tried to conquer Etheria and Eldritch in the past, the war between her forces, how Vlad Tepes lost his head, the boogeyman, the Gargoyle, etc. Maybe through cutscenes. Peter Spear printed some of the design documents discussing this background, and those same documents were also properly edited into a summary of events, and printed in the KQ7:Official Hint Guide by Lorelei Shannon.

I think it was said the Gargoyle and Boogeyman would have had a larger roles in the story in particular.

There was going to be at least two more areas of the kingdom, including an area called the "Rubber Jungle". The Were-Woods probably would have been fleshed out a bit as well, and maybe the Swamp?

Peter Spear alludes to there being alot more puzzles planned, some were to be pretty elaborate, he only hinted at one example, IIRC. I forget what he mentioned though. It might have mentioned a couple of item ideas that got cut. I think Colin Farwalker might have had a larger purpose as well. There might have been something along the lines of the last chapter wouldn't have been as choppy as it was, you probably would have switched back and forth playing both Rosella and Valanice and following both paths to save the kingdom.

There was also an extra scene shown in the KQ7 novel just after Rosella leaves Ooga Booga, where she speaks to Attis moments after her mother had entered the woods to Ooga Booga (he tells her about her mother, and that she had just passed into Ooga). They had essentially just missed each other as they passed through the woods.

There is actually quite a few lines cut from the dialogue that can be found in the files, including comments by the Kangeroo rat for nearly every item in the game, many that you normally can't bring to the to the rat since you have already used them by the time the characters reach the rat. He also has a line where he gives the desert an actual name, other than The Desert.

Speaking of things cut, while it made it into the initial release, there was an extra death scene cut in the 2.0 edition. You could be killed by the dragon's tail falling on you, in the original release. No one knows why it was cut, and its a bit of shame.
