LOL, ya kinda(the colors are similar).

Though the hat he wears is different than Graham's style, though its hard to tell the shape of his hat in that particular piece of artwork. The hat design is more clear in other artwork in the guidebook, but that's closest Derek has to a "closeup" however.

Speaking of Graham with a white hat(or actually white and purple);

Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

The story went more or less like this: "Peter Spear claimed to have gotten emails from a hacker who called himself Derek Karlavaegen, after changing address's and setting up other precautions he was forced to accept the fact that Derek and Daventry were real. Apparantly, we're either great dreamers or some kinds of gods to the people in Daventry. We spin their fate and alter their reality. Derek also mentioned Mordack years before KQ5 was even being written, so Jane Jenson wrote the companion in Derek's name and we're forced to come to the conclusion that Jane Jenson is Derek XD" , didn't it? :P

QuoteThe story went more or less like this: "Peter Spear claimed to have gotten emails from a hacker who called himself Derek Karlavaegen, after changing address's and setting up other precautions he was forced to accept the fact that Derek and Daventry were real.

Well he wasn't really a hacker he just sent emails to Peter Spear. If sending emails makes people hackers there are alot of hackers in the world :p...

The Eye between the Worlds apparently linked to Jane Jenson, Peter Spear's and Eluki Bes Shahar, who knows how many else. He didn't specifically know who he was sending messages to he just hoped there was someone on the other end to read the messages. He had picked up messages that came to him on the eye as well. Telling him how the King's Quest games were popular in our world. Having read information about the games, came to the realization that they were retellings of the history of his world and that some "Great Dreamer" had somehow tapped into his world.

It was hearing about the games that lead him to want to chronicle what really happened, so he sent messages over to the other side in hopes someone would read them, and learn the "true history".

If anything Derek was an early spammer, as he had apparently been sending out these messages to as many people as possible in hopes someone would read them :p...

Now if any hacking was involved its more than likely the hacking protocols were set up by Manannan for whatever diabolical plans he had for the other world... or as Derek puts it maybe he only had curiosity.

That being said it apparently wasn't plugged into any electricity so the eye seems to function by use of magic... It may automatically link onto people's mailboxes by use of magic as well... Cause Derek implies he didn't try to send it to anyone specific, all he did was type up his documents up and hit a "send" key.

That being said technology is rather uncommon in the world of Daventry as science is usually frowned upon or feared.

QuoteApparantly, we're either great dreamers or some kinds of gods to the people in Daventry.

Roberta Williams is actually the Great Dreamer. We aren't gods we are "ancestors" according to Derek, or that is we are the decendents of the ancestors that of the humans that went to the world of Daventry during the various withdrawals during history.

That being said he also says that his world dreams and influences our world as well. Thus why Roberta may have picked up the stories someone dreamed into her world, allowing her to dream into their world.

QuoteWe spin their fate and alter their reality
.

Actually according to Derek is likely only Roberta Williams that has that ability, at least to the extent of physically altering the world. Though its possible that there may be other great minds like Roberta. Most dreamers only look into his world but cannot affect the world much.

Derek says its also possible that dreamers in his world may influence what goes on in our world as well. Strange unexplained phenomena that goes on in our world may actually be caused by dreamers from his world.

It has something to do with there being a thin barrier between our world and his world. That allows dreamers and subconcious mind to cross through.

QuoteDerek also mentioned Mordack years before KQ5 was even being written, so Jane Jenson wrote the companion in Derek's name and we're forced to come to the conclusion that Jane Jenson is Derek " , didn't it?

Actually Derek only mentioned Mordack during the KQ5, and KQ5 related chapters which were released in 2nd edition not long after KQ5 was released. He is not mentioned in any editions pre-KQ5's release.

According to the companion Jane Jenson was sent messages from Derek Karlavaegen as well. Hence why she got a copy of the Guidebook which she "edited".
