I don't think 7 would be much of a problem. Everyone seems to have issues with MoE on Vista though, only solution I read is virtual machine and install win 98 on it (like suggested earlier in this thread)

From what I'm reading a virtual machine wont work as they don't support directX needed to run the game.

Don't know about that, found a thread on the Sierra Help Forums where people say that virtual machine + win98 does work for them.

Didn't try it myself though.

Has anyone figured out a way to get it running under Windows Vista/7?

Honestly I really don't.  I've scoured internet forums and read posts from way back to when vista first came out and no one else seemed to ever find any luck.  The solution seems to be to run a virtual pc or dual boot with xp, two things I wouldn't really have any idea how to do but might give a try later tonight.

Yeh I've done the same and as I'm quite...stupid when it comes to solutions that involve techy things then I don't get anywhere  :suffer:

That is one thing I have not figured out yet. I would love to play it on my vista but I still have an old Windows ME that barely runs it. Click to fast and the wonderful blue screen of death zaps me.

If you figure it out can you please let me know?
You can figure out how to get Connor in his skivvies by accident but you can't accidentally get the game to run? Boo! :P

I'm trying it in 7 now and I can't even get the installer to run. Invoking it either from the Autorun or by double-clicking the file itself gives me a UAC prompt, then it tries to run for a few seconds and then it just stops.
I would try a virtual machine, but I don't have a copy of Windows 98 around anywhere. I may try a virtual XP, though.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

I can't even find my copy of MoE now to try.  Going to buy a new one tomorrow.

You probably already know this, but in case you don't, you can get it brand new pretty cheap on Amazon.com.

Works great on Windows XP SP2 in VMWare. The Indeo install didn't work properly but I already had a newer version of the codec installed, so it didn't matter (I think IV5 or later comes with SP2). I gave the machine 1 GB of RAM just to be safe, but it could probably run the game just fine with less.
Looks really good and plays well. The only technical issue I discovered was a crash upon selecting D3D rendering in the options menu, but it's not necessary; DirectDraw works just fine.

It works pretty well in Windows XP, I don't know if anyone has found a work around for Vista or Windows 7 as of yet.

To bad someone can't try to make an unofficial patch for the game.
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

Yeh the problem I'm having is with Vista and my old computer upstairs which is XP is almost on it last legs. Take about an hour for it to turn on!  :suffer:

-> play \o/

Well, yeah...but it's a tad complicated if you don't know what you're doing, and I'm not sure how well the free version of VMWare works. I sent you a PM, Kimmie. :)
