Was that bit of land intentionally left out, or was that a clever retcon?
This is Nifty, Royal Heir.

I'm like, an adult now or something? Sounds fake, but okay.

Extra, extra!

The Four Winds covers the Ferry restoration!
And frankly I feel it's beginning to become a lost passtime on our younger generation.

I believe that should be pastime.

This one is slightly harder to get into to edit than the blog, I'm afraid, so that errors, typos, etc, are going to have to wait until the next article goes up at least. But, thanks for the catch.

I thought I'd bring up a comparison between the official account from The King's Quest Companion and your Four Winds version.

I notice that you have have used the names Hassan (but we have known you were using that for years). You also used the idea of Shamir helping repair the ship, and the name the Island Queen from the companion. You have also used the name Hakim, which is cool.

However that's about as much as they have in common. They diverge on the timing. In the King's Quest Companion, Shamir had actually repaired the ship with magic instananeously, and actually before the marriage ceremony (that's one of the main reasons that there were visitors from the other islands at the wedding). Which occured within a few days of Alexander defeating Abdul Alhazred (pre-KQ7). Edit: This is actually stated in KQ6 by Saladin in the ending as well (the wedding took place one week after defeating Alhazred).

Granted your version is a bit more dramatic ;).

Also Hassan has a son now? He was a bachelor in KQ6/companion. How long does your version take place after KQ6?
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

Actually he does not.  Its a fact mentioned in the TSL game that he'd like to have one some day.  You could interpret his words to mean he plans to have a son and teach him when he's old enough but I'll leave it to our editor Katie to decide if the article needs to be adjusted.

Ahh, thanks. That was my second thought, that he was speaking towards the future.

Hassan is speaking towards his hypothetical future son. I wonder what'll happen if he only has daughters? :P

Well, the ferry was repaired at the end of KQ6 for immediate need, but you know Hassan. He insisted on re-building the ferry with his own hands (as well as the docks and office). He accepted the new wood and help from Shamir, but insisted on going through the ship building process proper.

He also insisted on a strict 'no mint while working' policy after the incident with the land disappearing, though. ;)

Quoteand office
Rebuilding the office? They didnt' have an office before, no need for it, heh heh. It is the royal ferry and service, its owned and supported by 'the Crown' (socialism ;)), hassan's family were for generations the royal mariners. I've played the demo, and know how greedy Hassan has become, charging people money for something that's supposed to be free (while acting like he hasn't been paid enough, and needs more money). ;)

Granted he's starting to hire crew members, which his ancestors never did either. Guess he needs to, as he doesn't have a son to teach the secrets of navigation to, and if he dies, or is accidently killed, someone else will need to know those secrets. It could be a huge problem, if he is the only one that knows secret and doesn't pass it on. It's just asking for problems.

Perhaps his "office" is a night school for teaching new navigators ; http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/King's_Questions; If the captain in King's Questions isn't Hassan someone had to teach him how to navigate around the Green Isles.

QuoteI helped my father build the last ferry and it served well for years.
Hmm, ya, his father didn't actually build the, "the Ferry", the Island Queen. According to Guidebook to the Land to the Green Isles, and Companion, the same ship had been used for generations long before Derek Karlavaegan came to the island. It was always well maintained.

If you keep a ship well maintained it can last centuries.

I think at this point we're just going to have to say that our game doesn't quite share all the same details as the King's Quest Companion, Baggins. :)

Will you knock if off with all the smiley-posts? I have this thread 'monitored' in order to counter my own forgetfulness and as such not miss 'new' articles and when I see all of these new posts are just fluff I might lose interest :bob:  :stop:
PS: I will never lose interest in TSL. :D

I made some updates to Island Queen article, and Society of the Black Cloak, adding in a summery of the Green Isles conspiracy. I added in Saladin's quote from KQ6, as reference;

Quote".Saladin (KQ6): "With Shamir saved, and his power used for good, reuniting the islands will be far easier. He has already repaired the ferry. "

http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/Society_of_the_Black_Cloak

I'll add in other relevant quotes and references later.

That's not a proper 'Four Winds'-article! I just checked, it's not the 3rd article of issue 1, nor is the the 1st article of issue 2.
