In the ending of KQ7, if you don't take the right actions. You get a much sadder ending, as I found out the first time I ever played. :(

Enchantermon

Really? Huh. Never knew that.

Oh, wait...you mean if you don't
give him the cat's extra life after turning him back to normal? I never thought to not do that...
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

Enchantermon

Ah. I'll have to try that when I get to KQ7 then, thanks.

While TSL does use the long storyline version of KQ6.... keep your eyes and ears open while playing through TSL... the devs are sneaky and tricksy... and the observant adventurer might just find a subtle nod and reference to the short storyline....

The TSL team never ceases to amaze (and induce suffering). I will definitely be on the lookout for said homage.

That's true! I had forgotten about that! I know of at least one location where you may hear a nod :P

Yeah, you can complete KQ7 without saving his life, actually.

Yeah, I didn't realize this until you and tessspoon mentioned it. I'll have to do this when I play through it again.

There's not a huge difference--no nice final scene on the balcony, obviously--but just don't use the extra life on him in the end there. It does cast a slightly different tone on the denouement. (sp?)

Well done. :)
Yeah...that would suck, especially after saving him in KQ4. I'm glad I didn't find that ending when I was younger and playing it for the first time; it would have depressed me.

Speaking of bad endings, anyone ever forget to get the fruit in KQ4?

Yeah. Oops. :P

I never forgot the fruit.... but one time I did intentionally NOT get the fruit... just to see what kind of effect it would have on the ending.  Yea needless to say.... it wasn't a very good ending.

Oo, I never saw that! What happens?

I know! No one took the cap. :P

Hehe, so needless to say, we also went with the 'you save Graham's life' ending of KQ4 ;)
Genesta reminds you and then sends you home to be with your family as Graham dies.
I think after Genesta mentions it there's a text box that pops up saying something like "You knew you were forgetting something!"

Speaking of the end of KQ4, I always wondered what the code that pops up after the final cutscene was all about. Does anyone know?

I_am_so_nifty

I don't know anything about this code, but on the subject of the fruit, you can also eat it. Then you feel even guiltier.
This is Nifty, Royal Heir.

I'm like, an adult now or something? Sounds fake, but okay.

Enchantermon

Oh yeah, I forgot you can do that, too.

Point of note the short path in King's Quest 6 was not the best nor the true ending. To get the full points and the true ending you had to take the long path, through the Realm of the Dead. This is discussed in the official King's Quest hintbook by Lorelei Shannon, The King's Quest Companion, as well as the synopses in the KQ7 strategy guide by Lorelei Shannon and the manual for MOE as well, IIRC.

The TSL team hasn't made an "executive" decision on this issue, LOL, its been around for years.
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

MangoMercury

So how come when you make Genesta better, she can't just magic the fruit to you before taking you back home?

What a meanie.
