We were discussing how we would stat out Deloria's character in an RPG as a dragon (rather than a human mage which we did the other day :P)... seeing as her dragon was an aquatic dragon with pearl scales that periodically gets bored being a dragon and emerges to cull the stupid from the ranks of the humanity (her current schemes seem to primarily focus on magically poisoning kegs at Greek parties across the US). So, in a way, she did kind of have a "gun".

I had to talk her down to magically poisoning kegs... I had to convince her that actually, as impressive as dragons are, within this setting, if you tick off or otherwise upset enough members of magical society and/or the secret government agencies that deal with the magical and psychic, even if you are a dragon, you are setting yourself up for a terrible time. Skilled magic users and sufficiently developed psychics can go toe-to-toe with you... and they will... probably in considerable numbers. (... and you will eventually tick them off as you wipe out large sections of society for being stupid... :P)

Come to think of it... that was very similar to explaining to her that while her Ailuromancer could call up an army of cats to raid the kitchens... that's a considerable threat to the masquerade and will attract unwanted attention... ... ... seriously, just teleport the stuff you want to you subtly instead.

Anyway, sadly, I did not think of that reply and just replied with "No. Also, who is this?"... they never replied. ::)

Ooh, are you playing Vampire: the Masquerade? :D I've played the videogame version. And wait there's a game where you can be an Ailuromancer? I must play! :o

I'm converting a webcomic project that never took off into a tabletop RP setting. Mancers, dragons, and magic are things there... dangerous things, dragons in particular.

And from what I've gathered, the masquerade is the collection of magical families and the fronts they have to keep people from finding out. :P

Err... sorry, that's pretty much it. After that whole witch trials, inquisition... thing, the magical society in this setting has decided that secrecy was the best option (it was that or ... possibly wiping out a significant number of people... but being fairly established in society with some standing, that just wouldn't do).

Makes sense. Plus this gives you a morality/control system of sorts: players acting out craaazy and being too overt with their powers will get slapped down by the Masquerade police or something, I presume?
